Divine Potentialities

In reminding us of man's divine
potentialities. the Holy Day liturgy
performs a service of infinite
value. It asks us. as individuals
and as Jews. not to lose faith in
the worth-whileness of human ef-
fort.
The Shofar. with its ageless ,
clarion call. warns us to avert the
final disaster of surrender to de-
spair. The same ram's horn that
once called the Israelites from
their tents, now summons us to a
spiritual battlefield. In the words
of Maimonides. the Shofar calls
Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kip-

One of the newest institutions
to be established by the Kupat
Holim (Workers' Sick Fund) is
the post-natal convalescent home
- For Mother and Infant" at Kfar
Malal, one of the- first coopera-
tive labor settlements, not far
from Tel Aviv. This institution
provides convalescence for the
working mother on leaving hos-
pital and instructs her in the
care of tier new-born infant. At
the beginning the institution will
have room for 20 mothers and
their infants. Part of the cost
of upkeep will be borne by the
Women Workers' Council of the
Histadrut.
