ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Leon A. Cohen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Cohen of Lawrence
Ave.. left on Sept. 6 for Stanton Military Academy in Virginia,
accompanied by his mother, to enroll for his first semester.
Miss Frances Bornstein of Philadelphia Ave. left by plane Mon-
day, Sept. 2, for an extended vacation in Mexico City, where she
met her brother, Morris. After her visit there, she will leave
for Los Angeles to visit with Miss Florence Kravitz, formerly of
Highland Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin M. Blanck (Lorraine J. Denenburg) have
returned from Cihcago,
Shirley Mae Curtis of Clairmount Ave. returned to her home
after a year's stay in Los Angeles, Calif. Enroute home, she stopped
at Tucson, Ariz., to visit relatives.
Miss Aileen F. Stein, daughter of the A. C. Steins of W. Phila-
delphia Ave., was honored with a dinner attended by relatives on
the occasion of her 21st birthday.
Miss Frances Fox, Louis Fox and Miss Blanche Pearl have
returned from a Labor Day week-end at Cedar Pointe.
Mr. and Mrs. Morrey Shepherd of 4335 Cortland were guests
at a surprise party given in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary.
A buffet supper was served to 25 guests. The hosts were Mr. and
Mrs. M. D. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. M. Kosak.
Morris Bornstein, who has been attending the summer session
at the University of Mexico, returned to Detroit last Sunday, before
going back to the University of Michigan, where he is a senior.
- Mr. and Mrs". Hyman Berger will be at home on Sunday evening,
Sept. 15, in honor of their daughter, Esther, whose marriage to
Harold Isaacs of Long Island, N. Y., took place Aug. 1 in Atlantic
City. The reception will take place at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Isadore Berger, 2244 Edison Ave., 8 to 11 p. m. No cards.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Becker were guests for six days at the
Waldorf-Astoria, New York.
Mr. and M.S. I. Levinthal and daughter. Phyllis, returned to
their •home on Martindale Ave. after a month's visit with their
children, Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Carver (Golde Levinthal) and
daughter, Judy, of Miami, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Linden, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Simon
and Bernice Simon motored to Charlevoix to visit Bernard E. Linden,
fiancee of the latter, at Hilltop Inn, for Labor Day week-end.
Jeanne Betty Curtis was feted by 28 guests at a surprise party,
honoring her 18th birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lewis of 7333 Midland, had as their guests
over the Labor Day week-end Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Lewis of
Chicago, Ill.

ward H. Ehrlich, Mr. Milton Goldrath, Mr. Jack Fine, Mr. Jack D.

Mr. and Mrs. Max Miller, Mrs. E. Rice and sons, Mr. Abrams Sapiro,
Mr. and Mrs. Erwin L. Berman, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Morganwroth,
Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Champagne and son, Mr. J. D. Taylor, Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Eder, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Golden, Mr. A. H. Brodie, Mrs.
P. Leach.
On Aug. 31, Miss Marilyn Boesky was hostess to a group of
friends at a wiener roast at Lola Valley Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mann and son Donald of Mansfield Ave.
returned from an extended trip to Los Angeles, Calif.
Mrs. Anna Korduner of Huntington Park, Calif. formerly of De-
troit, entertained for Mrs. Eva Mann and Mary Schwartz of Detroit.
Also present at luncheon were Pearl Begleman, Nettie Sher, Jean
Korchek and several other guests, all former residents of Detroit.
Mr. 0. J. Adelson and children of Gladstone ,Ave. are back home
after spending two months at their summer home at Woodland
Beach, Lake Erie.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Medintz and daughter, Sylvia, formerly of
Grand Ave., are now residing in Los Angeles, Calif.
Max M. Fried and Samuel B. Fried of Laurence Ave., returned
from a motor trip to Long Island, New York.
Mrs. Morris Fox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Goldstein,
16522 LaSalle Blvd., left for her home in Los Angeles, after spend-
ing several weeks with her parents. Mrs. Goldstein is now con-
valescing at home.
Judge and Mrs. Charles Caspar Simons of Connecticut Ave., are
home after taking the Saguenay Cruise and a visit with Mrs.
Simons' family in Montreal.
Rhoda and Sharrie Schneider, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Israel
Schneider of Flint, returned from a two-month visit with their aunt
and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mittleman, Houston, Tex. They are the
granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Leinoff.
Mr. and Mrs. Aaron M. Pregerson and daughter, Judith, of Webb
Ave. have returned from a week's stay in Chicago where they were
guests of the Palmer House.
Miss Minnie Tobin, who visited with her family in Detroit for
six months after spending 10 years in Palestine, has left for Port
Elizabeth and Durbin, South Africa, by way of Alexandria.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon G. Winkelman of Fairfield Ave. have as
their guests Mrs. Winkelman's brother_inlaw and sister, Mr. and Mrs.
Seymour Lewis, and their mother, Mrs. Henry Rosenblum of Glad-
stone, Mich. The Winkelmans' sons, Jack and Fred, left on Thurs-
day for Delfield, Wis., to attend St. John's Military Academy.
Miss Bernice Sheplow of Clairmount Ave. left on Thursday for
Brooklyn, N. Y., where she will be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ben
Abramson and their daughter, Deborah.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Grossman of Parkside Ave. are spending
a week in New York.
Mrs. M. E. Taplan returned to her home in Philadelphia after
a visit with her father, Julius Stocker of Pingree Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Landsberg of Roselawn Ave. returned from
Chicago where they visited their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Winkelman.
Mr. and Mrs. Max J. Keidan, their daughter, Ethalyn, and son,
Daniel, returned to their home in Madison after a visit with their
family.

New Zionists to Meet
Wednesday to Assist
Detainees in Palestine

The executive committee of the
New Zionist Organization of De-
troit will meet Wednesday at 8:30
p. m., at the home of M. Manuel
Merzon, 2615 Taylor, to launch a
city-wide committee to aid in the
work of Asirai Zion Fund for the
assistance of Jews detained by the
British in Palestine.
This project, strictly non-parti-
san, is sponsored by a national
committee on the roster of which
are Dr. Leo Jung, Morris Wein-
berg, publisher of the Day, Pal-
estine's Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog,
Israel Rokach, Mayor of Tel Aviv,
Prof. Joseph Klausner of the
Hebrew University and others.

and is now on terminal leave. He
has completed 38 months in the
Army. Daniel, holder of the Com-
bat Infantry Badge, served on

months with the 31st Division and
was stationed in Yokohama with
the 731st Engrs. from Oct. 1945 ‘o
July, 1946. Both arrived back in
the United States on Aug. 10.
