Social Hall Dedicated
By NW Congregation;
800 Attend Ceremonies
Northwest Hebrew Congregation
.& Center dedicated its newly
completed social hall at Curtis and
Santa Rosa last Sunday at elab-
orate ceremonies before 800 per-
sons.
Sifrei Torah were preSented by
the families of Louis Freedman,
Manny Lax, Adolph L•ehter, Zlata
Charlip, Mrs. Bortman and Philip
Helfman. They were accepted on
behalf of the congregation by its
president, Ira G. Kaufman. .
The processional, which includ-
ed the Torah bearers, officers of
the Synagogue, past officers, board
of trustees, Men's Club officers
and Board, Sisterhood officers
and Board, the Young People's
Group and the Junior Congrega-
tion, as well as representative
members of the religious laity was
led by the newly installed relig-
ious leader Rabbi Jacob E. Segal.
The Rev. Jacob Sonenklar of
Shaarey Zedek chanted Ma Tovu.
Mr. Seligman lit the candles
and Synagogue lights were turn-
ed on for the first time. After
presentation of the key to. the
synagogue by Maurice Karo,• there
were tributes by the dedication
chairman, Adolph H. Lichter, the
past president, Alexander Moss,
Sisterhood president, Mrs. Max
Goldsmith, the Men's Club presi-
dent, Samuel Bez, the Young
People's Group, Mrs. Edith Oper-
man, and the Junior Congrega,
tion president, Gerold Loomis.

In Our Last. Line of Defense."
The evening banquet was at-
tended by 450 persons.
Introductory greetings by the
chairman of the evening, Mr.
Lichter, the over-all chairman of
both the afternoon dedicatory
services and the Banquet, Mr.
Alfred Helfgott, and the building
committee chairman, Maurice
Karo. made short remarks. The
principal address was made by
Rabbi Morris Adler. His topic
was "American Jewry's Time for
Greatness."

The brideroom studied at Wayne
University and the University of
Michigan and is continuing his
law studies.
FRIENDLY UNIT CLUB re-
sumed. its Fall meetings and has
planned a program of activities for
its sixth year of existence. The

charming white satin and mar-
quisette gown. She wore a finger-
tip veil with a crown of orange
blossoms and carried a Bible.
Miss Marilyn Marx, the bride's
