Georgia Klan,
Bund Linked
In U. S. Suit
Weds Dec. 29
Planned One Huge Anti-
American Combine Before
Pearl Harbor, Charge
NEW YORK (JPS) — Evidence
that the Ku Klux Klan and the
now defunct German-American
-Bund laid plans, just before Pearl
Harbor "to merge into one huge
anti-American combine," will be
used in the federal court case to
revoke the charter of the Ku Klux
Klan in Georgia, Assistant Attor-
ney General Daniel Duke, of Geor-
gia, declared at a joint press con-
ference here with New York State
Attorney General Nathaniel Gold-
stein.
"After the war started and the
Bund was dissolved collaboration
was continued by the leaders of
the two organizations," Mr. Duke
said. He added that he had
learned in New Jersey, where a
suit was filed Aug. 1 to invalidate
the Klan's charter, that Klan and
former Bund leaders ha don a
number of occasions, addressed
joint meetings of the two societies.
Jews Are Target in Tennessee
Emphasizing that all of Georgia
is not Ku Klux Klan, Mr. Duke
contended that the Man was mak-
ing more progress in neighboring
Tennessee, where he said, opposi-
tion is directed chiefly against the
Jews. He said a Jewish woman
was recently run out of a Ten-
nessee town by the Klan.
Contacted by the Associated
Press, Gov. Jim McCord of Ten-
nessee, declared in Nashville that:
"As far as I know there is no
Klan operating in Tennessee." He
added that the Georgia prosecutor
had not specified the town that al-
legedly ran out the Jewish woman
"for the very good reason that he
did not know of any such town."
Smith Rallies Stymied
In Two Chicago Hotels
CHICAGO (JPS) — Gerald L. K.
Smith, anti-Semitic, rabble-rous-
ing leader of the America First
Party was foiled by angry crowds
and police in attempts to hold
America First meetings in two of
Chicago's largest hotels.
Smith, whose last public appear-
ance in Chicago Feb. 7, ended in a
near riot and resulted in his ar-
rest, abandoned plans to speak at
the Stevens hotel after police told
several hundred persons in the ho-
tel lobby that the meeting was
called off. Later, Smith went to
the Morrison hotel, where a fight
took place in the lobby between
some of his followers and groups
picketing him.
Dr. Colvin Prepared
To Fit Contact Lenses
After 5 Years in Army
Expertness achieved during five
years' service with the U. S. Army
has enabled Dr. Wallace Colvin.
0. D., to perfect contact lenses,
and, since his discharge, he is
fitting them at his office at 9036
Dexter.
For 13 months during his ser-
vice, Dr. Colvin examined eyes in
the Detroit induction station and
handled many hundreds of cases.
Later, at Newport News, he did
secret work on stereoscope vision.
He served in Italy 18 months
and examined eyes there for a
time in an army hospital.
A graduate with honors of
Northern Illinois College of Op-
tometry, he is a member of Tomb
and Key. He was married to the
former Cynthia Malitz three years
ago.
Dr. Colvin recently said thous-
ands of people are wearing con-
tact lenses successfully. The list
includes prominent actors and
actresses, speakers, and men of
action who wear them to hide
their defective sight and at the
same time to secure normal vision.
Contact lenses provide the wide
field of vision so neccessary in
sports and active occupations and
are safer than spectacles.
For the convenience of those
who are busy during the day Dr.
Colvin will be in his office every
evening from 7 to 9 and by ap-
pointment at other times.
