Panhandle Approved
For Sale of Gas
To Out-State Areas

While the program of Panhandle
Gas Co. continues its resist-
ance to the program of Panhandle
Eastern Pipe Line Co. for piping
more natural gas to Detroit for
local use, still is meeting with
strong opposition, the Federal
Power Commission is acting
swiftly to ease the gas shortage
elsewhere in southern Michigan.
By commission order, Panhandle
Eastern has been authorized to sell
natural gas to Consumers Power
Co. for storage underground in
depleted Winterfield and Cran-
berry Lake gas fields, northwest of
Saginaw, and to install additional
facilities.
According to recent revelations
during Securities and Exchange
Commission hearings at Philadel-
phia, the City of Detroit learned
that attorneys, acting on behalf
of Michigan Consolidated inter-
ests, have been actively opposing
Panhandle Eastern's program for
Detroit's gas, as - represented by so-
called "A" and "B" construction
schedules, submitted to the Fed-
eral Power Commission.
