Friday, August 9, 1946 THE JEWISH NEWS Obituaries Our Letter Box A Message from Bnai Brith Editor, The Jewish News We should like to take this op- portunity to express to you our appreciation for your publicity which contributed so much to the success of our 78th Annual Con- vention held in Detroit July 7-10. The convention look cognizance of your contribution and unanim- ously adopted the following reso- lution: "BE IT RESOLVED that the sincere gratitude of this conven- tion and of all the delegates here assembled, be extended to the DETROIT JEWISH NEWS for the advance publicity and report- ing of the proceedings of this con- , vention." With many thanks, I am Sincerely yours, Ben Z. Glass. More Natural Gas Available for City --But Unwanted Additional natural gas for heat- ing can be made available here next year under the present source of supply by the Panhandle East- ern Pipe Line, it was announced this week by James H. Lee, assist- ant Corporation Counsel for De- troit. However, the major drawback to securing this additional gas, according to Panhandle Eastern, is that the Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. refused to negotiate for more at the present time. William E. Dowling, city Cor- poration Counsel, recently ap- peared before the Securities and Exchange Commission at Phila- delphia where the local gas utility interests were seeking permission to raise additional capital for fi- nancing its own pipelne. In pub, lic hearings last year before the Detroit common council, Dowling asserted that the proposed pipe- line is not needed.
