CAREFUL attention to lawns
can mean so much to the appear-
ance of a neighborhood . . . There
certainly is no reason whatsoever
for neglect . . It is just as easy
to haVe a well-tended lawn as not
. . . The front of a home is usually
indicative of the appearance in-
side . . . Don't throw refuse about
... or deface fronts of stores .. .
or trample on grass . . . When you
have finished reading a news-
paper, don't cast it out to the
winds . . . They can't read.
* * *
MANY PEOPLE in the entire
city . . . not just our community or
any one section of it ... are guilty
of these offenses against the neat
appearance of neighborhoods . .
But we're all very proud of our
community and want to be proud
of the way it is kept.

BIG DOINGS are on tab for the
evening of Aug. 14 . . . It'll be the
Julius Rosenwald Post of American
Legion Community Victory Day
Celebration . . . Resembling one of
those gala Hollywood premieres,
Dexter and Lawrence will be light-
ed up and traffic will be re-routed
by the police . . . The big event
will include a concert, entertain-
ment galore and dancing in the
street . . . We'll do the emseeing
chores from a huge stage complete
with dance orchestra and all.

ALL at- Women's Hospital were
given .gardenias by Sam Ginsburg,
the florist, a couple of Sundays
ago. . He had two good reasons
for being so generous—twin sons.

SHOPPING HINTS to the men
. . . Beware of those "especially
strong" sport shirts which laugh
at the laundry .. . Remember the
ones which come back with sides
split . . If you ask to see some-
thing cheap in a straw hat, for
goodness sake, don't look in the
mirror while trying it on ... When
shopping with your . wife, never
the pretty salesgirl who
asks if she can interest you in a
bathing suit.

SOME FORMER Detroit gals
now residing in California have
organized a charitable group called
the F.D.R. Council of Women . . .
and their first act will be to buy
a seeing-eye dog for a blind vet .. .
Their names are familiar to all . .
Mrs. Irvin Fleischacker (Theda
Nadell) is president . . . Mrs. Julius
Green (Rose Edith Themens), vice
president; Mrs. Harry Kleiman
(Florence Kornheiser), secretary;
Mrs. William Birnkrant (Shirley
Rubinstein) treasurer.

SAMMY MORRIS, swell master
of ceremonies whose impersona-
tions and vocal renditions have
made him a favorite around these
parts, leaves for Europe, Aug. 10,
as part of a USO troupe on a six-
months tour . He saw service
in the Pacific, so it will make both
ends of the globe for Sammy .. .
The boys over there will get a big
kick out of the remnant of a bear
skin coat he has been using for
years . .. The fur is so frightfully
air-conditioned that it could easily
cause a permanent hibernation of
the entire grizzly kingdom . .
Too bad the fellows won't see
Sammy do the Ink Spots with
Jack Stern and Benny Resh . . .

ANNUAL, CONVENTION of Del-
ta omega Iota Sorority will be held

take out-of-town dates. •

A GROUP OF BOYS in file com-
munity are forming a boxing club
. probably the, first one to be
founded in the neighborhoods to
further education on handling
oneself in an emergency . .
doubt the club colors will be black
and blue.
WHEN WRITING to the
column regarding an audition for
the planned musical show, please
do not _ neglect to mention the
type of act you do. . .The present-
ation will give those with a tal-
ent an opportunity to show what
they can do. . . We are writing
an original show with original
scores by Al Waterstone and
Harvey Classman. . . Proceeds
will go to charity.

WITHOUT MENTIONING
names, Herman Teal, Hudsorl
dealer, tells about a "playboy"
automobile man who had his
third childhood nipped in the bud
by his wife . . . She handed him
a bottle of hair tonic, last week,
to give his secretary at the office
. . . because her hair was com-
ing out rather badly on his coat.

AS ANYONE WOULD 'guess,
the line-up of cars and blasting
of horns on 14th and Clairmount,
a week ago Friday morning, was
behind a woman driver. . . . She
was more engrossed in a daily
"soap opera" than in the lights
changing. . . From' the third
auto, U. S. Revenue Agent Ernie
Iczkovitz emerged to help her just
as the heroine discovered she
loved 10 other fellows.

ONE THING ABOUT a woman
motorist. . . . When she holds out
her hand, you can be certain that
she is either going to turn to the
right, turn to the left, stop, or is
just drying her nail polish.

Zionist Council of Detroit
Condemns Partition Plan
'Federalization' Called Program to 'Secure a Homeland for
the Homeless British Army'; Revisionists Issue
Blast Against Newest Scheme
The Zionist Council of Detroit,
in a statement issued this week,
condemns proposals for the "fed-
eralization" of Palestine and ap-
peals to the conscience of Ameri-
cans to help prevent further- trag-
edies for the Jewish people. .
The statement declares in part:
"The original territory of Pales-
tine, promised to the Jewish peo-
ple in the . Mandate for Palestine,
included Trans-Jordania, for a
total of 45,000 square miles. This
territory has been torn from Pal-
estine leaving a territory of 10,-
000 sqtfare miles in the area con-
sidered as the Jewish National
Home. The latest British proposal,
for which the blessings of our own
government are sought, would al-
locate the southern part of Pales-
tine — known as the Negev — for
Britain's military base. It would
give another 45 per cent of the
territory to the Arabs and would
leave for the Jews the ghetto por-
tion of 1,500 square miles.
A Degrading Scheme
"What is even worse is that
Jews, even under such a degrad-
ing scheme, would be deprived of
self-government, and would not
even have the right of supervising
a post-office or a fire department
or its own school system. ALL
would remain under British con-
trol.
"This 'federalization' plan in ef-
fect is a program to secure A
HOMELAND FOR THE HOME-
LESS BRITISH ARMY, and in
the end it would react unfavor-
ably not only to the Jews but also
to the Arabs and to entire future
peace of the world.
• in
"American correspondents'
Palestine are authorities for the
viewpoint that the new plan would
give the Jews of Palestine less
,rights than the American colonies
had before the Thirteen States
revolted against Britain and de-
clared America's independence in
1776!"
Revisionist's Statement
The New Zionist Organization
of Detroit (Revisionist), of which
Aaron M. Weisbrot is president
and M. Manuel Merzon secretary,
also issued a statement condemn-
ing the partition. Their statement
also points to earlier slicing of
Palestine • and declares in its oppo-
sition to partition:
"It is only in a world that has
been rendered callous to cruelty
that this British mockery of the
sacred aspirations of a noble and
ancient people is viewed as some-
thing worthy of serious considera-
tion.
• "The British plan is nothing but
a trap for the Unwary; it is a bait
that the Jews can bite only at their
greatest peril. It comes from the
same power-hungry clique which
was instrumental in liberating the

U.S. Officers Feted
In Homes of Nazis
NEW YORK. (JPS)—"Gallant
young U. S. lieutenants, captains
and majors," whose uniforms add
that touch of martial color for
which Bavarian society has always
been distinguished," are enter-
tained at parties thrown by "hand-
some . Erruny Goering and her
plump, delightful daughter, Edda,"
and by the "gayest of all the ma-
trons, Frau Keitel (her husband,
like Marshal Goering, has been
detained on business in Nurem-
berg and young Frau von Blom-
berg,"according to Time maga-
zine's Aug. 5 issue.
NEW YORK. (JTA)—A total of
449 steamers carrying 7,330 Jew-
ish passengers were met by the
Immigrant Reception and Pier
Service of the BIAS during the
first six months of 194.6, according
to the semi-annual report of the
organization made . public by Abra-
ham Herman, president..
ROSENBERG'S
Mufti, who had waged war against
the United Nations, and incarcer-
ating the venerable Rabbi Fish-
man, acting head of the Jewish
Agency. The acceptance of this
proposal would be tantamount to
placing the head of the Jewish
people in a noose.
"Arab unrest, the alleged basis
for the partition plan, is made in
Britain. It has been designed. and
executed by the same master
minds in the British government
who had severed Ulster from the
rest of Ireland, who had stirred
up enmity between the Moslems
and Hindus in India and whose
moral ancestors had sought to
keep smoldering the embers of our
own Civil War. The Palestine pat-
tern is not new. Let Britain. relax
her strangle hold of that unhappy
country and the two kindred se-
mitic peoples, the Jews and the
Arabs, shall, within a Jewish state,
live in peace and harmony."
