Jews Called Pawn
In Poland Struggle
J E R USALEM, (JPS-Palcor)--
The Jews in Poland today are
pawns in the strugglef or power
between the Polish Government
and the majority of the Polish
people, and at least 150,000 of the
200.000 Jews now in that country
want to leave, Henry Monter,
executive vice chairman of the
United Palestine Appeal and the
United Jewish Appeal, declared at
a press conference here, at which
he reported on his recent visit
to Poland and to Jewish displaced
persons camps in Germany.
The U. S. Army in Germany.
Mr. Montor said, deserves the ut-
most appreciation of the Jewish
people, for the sympathy and co-
operation which its top officers
have extended. The U. S. Army
made it possible for tens of
thousands of Jews to find tem-
porary haven while they fled from
imminent death.
The attitude of the Army is re-
flected in the recent action of
Gen. McNarney who enabled the
tens of thousands of Jews fleeing
Poland monthly to be accepted in
camps in the American zone. The
U. S. Army, Mr. Montor said, is
ready to transport any number of
Jews from Germany to Palestine.
The Jews in German DP camps
repdesent a remarkable asset for
Palestine, he said. They are pre-
pared to work hard and live
modestly and are perfect material
for settlement in Palestine which

is their conscious choice and not
an accidental refuge.

Yes, Mr. and Mrs. Detroit, this answers the
question of future natural gas supply. But there's
a big IF in the picture .. .

If Michigan Consolidated continues to deprive
your gas-hungry city of its share of Panhandle
Eastern's abundant supply, the shortage will last
for years.
The final phase will see a third great Panhandle
Eastern pipeline in full operation, enabling
our system to deliver to the cities we serve the
astronomical total of 750 million cubic feet every
24 hours from the world's richest natural gas fields.
