In Kielce : Polish soldiers are
on guard! The Kielce Community
House is shown here under pro-
tection—after 41 Jews were mur-
dered in the pogrom. Nine of the
murderers, speedily condemned by
a Polish court, have ben ex-
ecuted. But since then, Jewish
refugees who sought to escape
over country roads have been shot
down, 160 more Jews have been
murdered and the government ap-
pears to be unable to halt an
Semitic violence. Fascist bands
continue to roam through Poland,
defying the government's threat
to punish perpetrators of anti-
Semitic terrorism. But the exodus
continues, and thousands of Jews
are on the march seeking escape
from the land which has estab-
lished for itself the horrible repu-
tation of being one of the most
anti-Semitic countries on the
globe. Most of the Polish Jews are
escaping to the U. S. zone, but
5,000 Jews are reported to have
arrived in Vienna last week.
