Reports from Poland indicate that at "least 4,000 Jews
are leaving the country every week and infiltrating into the
American zone of occupation.
At this rate, there • is a possibility that the remaining
Jews in Poland—less than 100,000 out of the pre-war total
of 3,500,000—may be out of the country within a year.

WARSAW—The murder of 33 more Jews in Lodz and
Wroclaw, as they attempted to escape from Poland, where
Jewish lives are jeopardized by an increasing wave of po-
groms, has added to the panic existing among Polish Jews:
The murdered Jews were dragged from trains and cars
between Lodz and Wroclaw by armed anti-government

bandits, and were shot summarily. The victims were part of the
mass emigration of Jews which had proceeded steadily in the last
few months, and which was heightened by the Kielce pogroms
where 41 Jews were murdered.
It is charged that General Anders'_ anti-government forces are
responsible for the pogroms.
Refused to Condemn Anti-Semitism
The statement by August Cardinal Hlond, iri which Jewish gov-
ernment officials are blamed for the tension, has aroused wide-
spread resentment.

Hoard of Jewels
Reveals Gruesome
Murders of Jews

The problem thus created adds to the tension among American
forces. of occupation, United States officials being anxious to see
speedy realization of the recommendation for the transfer of 100,000
Jews . to Palestine.
Germans Arrogant with Jews
The situation among the DPs remains tense. In Germany,
authoritative sources report that the Jewish DPs are humiliated by
the Germans who are daily becoming more arrogant. One observer
states that if the DPs are compelled to remain in Germany another
winter it will lead to bloodshed and to mass killings.
Demands for the admission of 100,000 Jews into Palestine are
causing widespread rifts in government circles in England. Dur-
ing the open air protest meeting in London last week, there was
a disturbance between Jews and non-Jews. A number of persons
were arrested, among them fascists who attempted to stir up feel-
ings against Jews on the strength of anti-Zionist sentiments. .
British Deputies May Split
There is danger of a rift in the British Board of Deputies
as a resuult of the- Palestinian situation. The non-Zionist and
assimilated groups, moved by fears created over the "escape" of the
Mufti and scurrilous articles in the London Herald, laborite organ,
may cause a split in this body which represents a majority of the
Jews of England. There is talk that a separate Jewish organization
may be set up as a result of this tension. The almost unanimous
criticism of British policy is adding fuel to the fire.
England has a long tradition of political tolerance. The present
attempt to intimidate Jewish citizens of England because of their
attitude on the Pa:estine question marks a new chapter. The situ-
ation is far from being grave now. But as a symptom for the
future, it should not be ignored, because this new attitude on the
part of some Englishmen—questioning Jewish patriotism when dis-
agreement arises on a political question—is both alien to erstwhile
British tolerance and potentially a source of danger.

Lehman Says Jews Must Be Allowed Into Palestine
Large-scale immigration into Palestine "must be permitted im-
mediately" as the "only chance for security and peace" for many
of Europe's Jews, former Governor Herbert H. Lehman declared
in a message to a memorial meeting at the Hotel New Yorker, New
York, for the victims of the pogrom in Kielce. The meeting was
under the auspices of the American Federation for Polish Jews.
"So long as the Jews remain in Poland," Mr. Lehman said, "they
must be assured of full protection and the restoration of their
rights. The cowardly, bestial attacks on innocent men, women and
children in Kielce and other parts of Poland has shocked the
conscience of humanity."
Kielce Survivors To Be Evacuated
The more than 150 survivors of the Kielce pogrom will be
evacuated to Lodz and Lower Silesia, JDC has announced on the
basis of a cable received from its director in Poland. The Central
Jewish Committee of Poland and the government will cooperate in
the transfer.
The JDC representative, William Bein, said that the Polish
government had taken immediate action to aid the survivors and
disclosed that the JDC has made special grants of cash, food and
clothing.

5,000 Polish Jews Flee into Czechoslovakia
PRAGUE, (JTA)—Nearly 5,000 Jewish, refugees from Poland
have arrived in Czechoslovakia since the pogrom at Kielce, posing
a difficult problem for the Jewish community and the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee.
