Jewish Vets Seeking
10,000 New Members

States has inaugurated a drive to
enlist 10,000 new members—men
and women—who served in the
armed forces during World War II.
At present the Department con -

1. To maintain true allegiance to the
United States of America.
2. To foster and perpetuate true
Americanism.
3. To combat whatever tends to Im-
pair the efficiency and permanency of
our free institutions.
. 4. To uphold the fair name of th ,?.
Jew and fight his battles whenever un-
justly assailed.
5. , To encourage the Doctrine of

Universal Liberty, Equal Rights and
full justice to all men.
6. To combat the powers of bigotry
and darkness wherever originating and
whatever their target.
7. TO preserve the Spirit of Com-
radeship by mutual helpfulness to Com-
rades and their families.
8. To instill love of Country and
Flag and to promote sound minds and
bodies in our members and our youth.
9. To preserve the memories and
records of Patriotic service perfoenv!d
by the men of our Faith.
10. To honor their memory and
shield from neglect the graves of our
heroic dead.

Jewish War Veterans cooperate
with the. American Legion, Vet-
erans of Por,eign Wars, Disabled
American Veterans, Amvets, Pol-
ish War Veterans and Catholic
War Veterans, as well as non-
veteran groups, to help solve prob-
lems of mutual interest.
The Jewish veterans are devel-
oping a youth movement to com-
bat juvenile delinquency, to fur-
ther education in general among

both young and old, to help the
Government in publicizing worth-
while campaigns, municipal, State
and National.
A plot of ground has been pur-
chased by the Jewish veterans in
the northwestern section of De-
troit for an athletic field and a
memorial home for veterans. A
campaign to secure funds to com-
plete this project will be actively
instituted in the very near future.

An advertisement pointing out
that Detroiters pay a higher price
for natural gas than residents of
comparable cities brought "no
comment" from a spokesman for
the Michigan: Consoldated Gas Co.
The advertisement, by the Pan
handle Eastern Pipeline Co., pur-
ported to show that Detroiters pay ,
a markup of more than 400 per t
cent to Michigan Consolidated. -
The two utilities - are awaiting
hearing before the Federal Power a
Commission in Washington • over
the right to bring gas into Detroit
from Texas fields. ..yew

ment, Michigan Consolidated

gas for only 38 cents, and
sells
for $2.
"We have absolutely nothing to
say to the claims of Panhandle
Eastern," the spokesman - said.
"We have to comment. If we
wanted to get into a debate with
Panhandle, we'd buy the space and
reply by advertising. We have
absoNtely no intention of doing
that."
