BERLIN, (JTA)—Permission to
ship' 2,000 pounds of essential
foodstuffs into Leipzig in the Sov-
iet zone has been granted the
Joint Distribution Committee.
The shipment will be the first
one to reach Leipzig and will be
transported by the International
Red Cross. It will be distributed
to Leipzig's 300 Jewish residents
by the Jewish community.

Will Buy $15,000,000 Worth
of U. S. Army Surplus for
Refugees, Needy

PARIS, (JTA)—Jewish, Cath-
olic and Protestant relief organ-
izations operating in Europe have
banded together in a Joint Pro-
curement Mission to purchase $15,-
000,000 worth of surplus U. S.
Army supplies in 1946 for the re-
lief of European refugees and
needy persons, Arthur D. Green-
leigh, director in France, has an-
nounced. The Mission, in which
81 American voluntary relief agen-
cies are participating, already has
bought $4,000,000 worth of food,
medical supplies and equipment
from the Army.

JWB To Sponsor National

NEW YORK — Culminating a
year-long series of regional and
community institutes at which
young people throughout the'
country dealt realistically with
the question, "Jewish Youth Faces
the Future," the Rational Jewish
Welfare Board (JWB) is sponsor-
ing a national Jewish •youth insti -
tute at Camp Wel-Met, Narrows-
berg, N. Y., Aug. 30 to Sept. 5, to
help create a greater understand-
ing of the role of Jewish youth in
the Jewish community, the Jewish
community center and the JWB.

In recognition of their services

the ,1946 Emergency Allied Jewish
Campaign, the following nine per-
sons were elected to fill Vacancies
on the board of directors of the
Junior Service Group of the Jew-
ish • Welfare Federation: Margie
Aronsson, Mandel L. Berman, Mor-
ton Feigenson, Monte M. Korn,
Theodore Leibowitz, Morton D.
Lieberman, Norman Naimark, Cor-
inne R. Perlis and William Sha-
piro. -
Plans for community-wide social
and philantropic activities during
the summer and fall are being
formulated by committees to be
announced soon.
A committee composed of. Alex
J. Etkin, Diana Rosenblatt, Nor-
man Naimark and Goldie Levin-
stein has been reviewing the 1946
Allied 'Jewish - Campaign 'structure
and procedure and is making rec -
ommendations for improvements
in the next campaign.

Lookstein Named to Head JDC
Latin American Committee
NEW YORK, (JTA)—The ap-
pointment of Rabbi Joseph H.
Lookstein, orthodox leader, as
chairman of the Central and
South American committee and as
a member of the JDC Administra-
tive Committee has been an-
nounced at the New York offices
of the JDC. Rabbi Lookstein visit-
ed South and Central America
during 1945 on a speaking engage-
ment for the JDC.
