Miss Shirley M. Schwartz, a senior student at the University
of Michigan, is at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Schwartz of Pingree Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Baskin and daughter, Iryce, of Cherry-
lawn Ave., are in Chicago for a two-week visit.
Saundra Baskin of Cherrylawn Ave. left for Lake Delaven,
Wis., to spend the summer at Mac-Do Lodge.
Miss Shirley Zack, whose coming marriage to Carl Schram
will take place at Congregation Shaarey Zedek on July 7, when
entertained with showers by Mesdames H. Brode, J. White, J.
Kroker, M. Herman, and N. Rosenzweig at Huyler's; by Mrs. S.
Oleshansky at Rosenberg's; by Mrs. E. M. Zack and Mrs. S. N.
Zack, at Huyler's; and Mrs. J. Rosen and Mrs. W. Serman at Pont-
chartrain Wine Cellars. Luncheons were given honoring Miss Zack
by Misses C. Winokur and A. Greenberg, and Mrs. J. Goldberg; by
Mrs. H. Fixier and Mrs. J. Erman; and by Miss Shirlee Sklare.
Sam Siegel and daughter, Leah, of 3224 Richton Ave., have
returned from Chicago, where they attended the commencement
exercises of Miss Siegel's fiance, Cal Goldberg, who received his
bachelor of science degree in education from Northern Illinois
State Teachers College. The bride-elect also was guest of honor
at a shower given by her future aunt, Mrs. Joseph Schneiderman,
on June 14.
Mrs. George Freedman of Whitmore Rd. has - returned from a
month's stay in Hot Springs, Ask.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bakerman of Burlingame Ave. have re-
turned from a trip to Philadelphia and Atlantic City.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis L. Rosen have left for Camp Tamakwa in
Algonquin Park, Ontario, for the summer. Mr. Rosen is sectional
director of the camp.
Miss Evelyn Bronstein of Buena Vista Ave. has returned from
a five weeks' stay in Birmingham, Ala.
Mr: and Mrs. Arthur J. Hass of LaSalle Blvd. left for an extend-
ed stay in New York. Their sons, Bill and Dan, left for Camp
Michigama.
Mrs. Edith Goldman and son, Avery, of 2275 Gladstone have
left for a two months' visit with Mrs. Goldman's parents in Oak-
land, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rose of the Belcrest have left for a trip
to Boston, Cape Cod and Maine.
Dr. and Mrs. Ezra Lipkin, their son, Seymour, and daughter,
Eleanor, are driving to San Francisco where Dr. Lipkin will attend
the convention of the American Medical Association. Seymour will
leave their at Yellowstone for the Berkshire Music Center, Mass.,
where he will study conducting with Serge Koussevitzky. Dr. and
Mrs. Lipkin and daughter will return to Detroit about Aug. 1.
Mr. and Mrs. B. Densen and daughter of Pingree Ave. have as
their house guest Mrs. Dora Chayet and daughter, Cheila, of Mexico
City.
Barbara Soss has left for New York and will visit with friends
in Atlantic Beach and Diehl.
Mrs. Lois Ettinger of Chicago Blvd. is visiting with the Ben
Lutz family in Tucson, Ariz.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo M. Butzel of Burns Ave. left on Monday for -
Charlevoix where they will spend the summer.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Levin and their sons, Jerry, Robert and
Franklin of Muirland Ave. have left for Hilton, Ontario, where
they plan to spend the summer.
Joan Dreifus of Memphis, Tenn., is the guest of her cousin,
Susan Dreifus, of Birchcrest Dr.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene J. Arnfeld of Strathcona Dr. left for
Gaylord, Mich., where they will spend a month with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wineman, at their cabin.
Mrs. Victor W. Klein and her son, Bobby, left on Tuesday
for Charlevoix where they will spend the summer. Mr. Klein
accompanied them for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Enggass of Cumberland Way have
as their guest, Mrs. Engass' neice, Miss Helen Bienstock of New
York City. Their son Robert, is leaving this Friday for New York
where he will attend the summer session at Columbia University.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Rodecker of the Park Lane Apt. had as
their guests for a few days Mr. and Mrs. Sol H. Levy of Fort
Smith, Ark.
Dr. and Mrs. Emil Rothman and their daughter, Joan, of
Glastonbury Ave. have left to spend a month in California,
Lake Louise and Banff.
Mr. and Mrs. John Sills of San Juan Dr. are expected home
on Sunday from a fortnight's visit in New York.
Mrs. Oscar Zemon of Roslyn Rd. is leaving this Friday to
spend a fortnight in Charlevoix as the guest of her mother, Mrs.
Harry Newman.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lieberman of Birchcrest Dr. have as
their guest their sister-in-law, Mrs. Morris. Fred of Waco, Tex.
Marilyn Fred is expected to join her mother next week.
Miss Betty Loewenstein of Longfellow Ave. has left to spend
six weeks in Washington, D. C.
Edward Mayer Blumberg of Glynn Ct. is spending a month in
Beverly Hills, Calif., where he is visiting with friends and relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Jacobs of Glynn Ct. and Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence Crohn of Wildemere Ave. are spending a few days in
Canada.

Bolster Weakened
British Credit

LONDON, (JTA) — The funds
collected in the United States for
Zionist endeavors in Palestine
greatly benefit Britain's financial
structure by increasing its dollar
credits, the Manchester Guardian
points out. It says that Palestine
is the only Middle Eastern coun-
try bringing dollars into the
sterling area—through the Zion-
ist collections and the sale of dia-
monds.
On the other hand, the Guard-
ian says, the merchants of Trans-
jordan are making fortunes pur-
chasing non-essential items in the
United States and reselling them
in neighboring countries, thus
expending precious dollar cred-
its.

Speaker's Medal at
Boys' State Sessions

MISS ETHEL ISENBERG

Mr. and Mrs. William B. Isen-
berg of Edison Ave., announced
the engagement of their daughter,
Ethel, to Dr. Edward E. Levine,
at a family dinner party at their
home Tuesday night. Dr. Levine
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Levine of Chicago.
Miss Isenberg attended Brad-
ford Junior College and the Uni-
versity of Michigan, where she
was affiliated with Alpha Epsilon
Phi Sorority and Zeta Phi Eta.
Dr. Levine was graduated from
the University of Illinois College
of Medicine, where he was a
member of Phi Delta Epsilon and
Alpha Omega Alpha Fraternities,
and interned at the Cook County
hospital in Chicago. He returned
a few months ago from England,
where he had been stationed dur-
ing the war as a major in the U.
S. Army Medical Corps.

Wolverine Boys' State, held at the
Michigan State College in East
Lansing, June 21, Bertram Sand-
weiss, 16-year-old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Irving Sandweiss of 2725
Burlingame, received the speak-
er's medal, an award given to
the outstanding extemporaneous
speaker, among 800 contestants.
Bertram, an honor student at
Central High School, was spon-
sored by Julius Rosenwald Post
218, American Legion.
The Wolverine Boys' State is an
-intensive course in government
and democracy where each citi-
zen of the Junior State exercises
his privileges and responsibilities
of complete citizenship.
In addition to the honors Bert-
ram received at the Wolverine
Boys' State, he participated in
an open radio forum, "In Our
Opinion," which Station WJR
maintains every Sunday.
Credit for the selection of win-
ning candidates goes to Robert
Fenkel, chairman of the Wolver-
ine Boys' State of Rosenwald

JERUSALEM (JTA)—A 4,500-
Canaanite temple, be-
lieved to be the oldest building
ever discovered in the Middle
East, has been unearthed near the
village of Kinnereth, at the south-
ern .end of the Sea of Galilee, by
a Jewish Palestine Exploratory
Society expedition.
The archeological expedition
has been working three years on
the site of Beth Yerach, appar-
ently a flourishing, well-populat-
ed town during the Roman occu-,
pation of Palestine and earlier.
It was situated on a small penin-
sula jutting into the Sea of Gali-
lee near the Jordan River.

farewell ceremony here for the
members of the Jewish Brigade
who are paving shortly for Pal-
estine where they will be de-
mobilized.
Earlier Brigadier Ernest F. Ben-

gade, accompanied by his staff
officers, laid a wreath of blue and
vrhite flowers on the tomb of Bel-
