ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Millman of Birchcrest Ave. have as
their guests Mrs. Millman's parents, Mr. and Mrs.• Michaels and
her sister Mrs. Joseph..M. Frankle and son, Mickey, all of Wash-
ington, D. C. • Mr. and Mrs. M. Stein of Chicago spent the last
week-end with the Millmans.
Dr. and Mrs. Shayel Scheinberg (Fern Schlafer) of Chicago
Blvd. left Monday for Memphis, Tenn., where they will spend
a fortnight visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Scheinberg.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Sarasohn and their small son, Peter, have
returned to their home in_Jackson Heights, L. I., following a short
visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Sarasohn of Webb Ave.
MoMM 2/c Harry M. Gordon who has been in service for two
years, including 17. months in the Pacific area, has received his
discharge and is at home with his parents, Mr. and. Mrs. Bernard
M. Gordon of Parkside Ave.
Mr. an Mrs. Ben Hoffer of Leslie Ave. had open house last
Sunday afternoon in honor of their three sons, Cpl. Daniel Hoffer
who received his discharge after two years service, including 15
months in the ETO, 1st Sgt. Martin Hoffer who was - discharged
after 41/2 years service, including two -years in the ETO, and Lt.
Julius M. Hoffer, now on terminal leave after 31/2 years including
one year in the Pacific area.
Mr. and Mrs.. Jack Reifler of Glendale Ave. had as their
guests last week-end, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Cannon, their daughter,
Marilyn, and son Billy, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rosenberg, Mr. and
Mrs. S. L. Lipman. their daughter, Donna and son, Michael of
Toledo, and Mrs. L. Reifler aria son Sol of Chicago.
Lt. Harold Hellman who was in service with the U.S.A.A.F
for 31/2 years, including 21/2 years in the ETO where he was a
German prisoner of war for two years, has received his discharge
and is at present making his home with his cousins, Mr. and Mrs.
Milton Cohen of Greenlawn Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Denneberg have returned to their home
in Toronto following a few days visit with Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Clark of Parkside Ave.

LEVY-SHAW: The marriage
of Shirlie Rhoda Shaw, daugh-
ter of Dr. and Mrs. S. Irwin
Shaw of 16250 • Cherrylawn,' and
Dr. David B.• Levy, son of Mt
and Mrs. Charles Levy of 313
S. Broad St., Suffolk, Va., was
performed at the Whittier Hotel
on June 9. • Rabbi Morris Adler
officiated.
The couple met while Dr. Levy
was interning at Harper Hospital
ana Miss Shaw was training as
a. student nurse.
The bridegroom is a graduate
of University of Virginia and
William and Mary College. He
completed his internship on June
8. He is a member of Phi Delta
Epsilon.
The bride was graduated from
Harper School of Nursing last
February.
Murien •Duvten Shaw, the
bride's sister, was maid of honor.
The bridegroom's b r o the r,
Doyle Maurice Levy, was best
Man.
- The newlyweds left for- a trip
east after the wedding. .-

SMITH - FRANK: At a _beau-
tifully appointed ceremony at
the Franklin Hills Country Club
on Tuesday, June 11, Bette Mae
Frank, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lewis C. Frank of Colorado Ave.,
became the bride of Robert C.
Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Barney Smith of Chicago Blvd.,
with Dr. B. Benedict Glazer of-
fiCiating.
The bride was lovely in • her
traditional gown of -ivory satin
fashioned in princess style with
fitted. bodice, sweetheart neck-
line and long tight. sleeves. The
skirt was full and extended into
a court train. Her fingertip veil
of illusion fell from a heart
shaped • crown of lace and she
carried a spray of orchids, car-
nations and stephanotis.
Ruth Frank was her sister's
maid of . honor; and the brides-
maids included, her cousin, Ruth
Elaine Frank, Pat Finsterwald,
Betty Lewis, Lenore Lurie of
Chicago and Jackie Jepson of
Richmond, Ind. The bridegroom's
sister, Lois Smith was the flower
girl.
Ushers were Robert and Henry
Frank, the bride's brothers, Ar-
thur and Milton Smith, the bride-
groom's brotherg, Gordon Prus-

JDC Sends 5 More
To Work in Europe

NEW YORK.—Five more field
representatives of the Joint
Distribution Committee left by
air on June 9 for posts in
Europe, where they will assist in
the relief, rehabilitation and
emigration programs of. the JDC,
major American agency aiding
Jewish survivors overseas.
The representatives are: Miss
Laura • Margolis of Cleveland,
formerly with the JDC in Cuba,
Belgium and Shanghai, where
she was
_ interned by the Japan-
ese for seven months during the
war; Manuel Siegel of Boston,
interned by the Japanese- in
Shanghai for more than two-
and-one-half years; Mrs. Sara
Stein of Philadelphia, emigra-
tion expert; "Jack Schwart z,
Pharmacist, of Brooklyn; David
Resnick of New York, overseas
public relations director.

Marking the close of its 21st
year of activity, Detroit Halevy
Singing Society is planning a so-
cial evening for Saturday, June
29, in the Jewish Center.
Phil Goren, vice-president and
chairman of entertainment, heads
the ' committee for the social.
There will be a musical program
and dancing beginning at 9
o'clock. A refreshment bar will
be in operation. There is no
