Miss Sheryl Epstein of 16152 LaSalle Blvd. is home from High-
land Manor School, New Jersey, to spend the summer vacation
with her parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pevos were hosts at a buffet supper
at their home, 3216 Ewald Circle, on June 17.
Mrs. Sylvia Altshuler,. the former Sylvia Watnick, now of
Hempstead, N. Y., is visiting relatives here, having come to attend
the funeral of her brother-in-law, Harry, Rutin.
Miss. Margery Kanter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Kan-
ter of Atkinson Ave., left on June 8 for an indefinite stay in New
York City. Miss Kanter recently returned to Detroit after a year's
stay in Los Angeles.
Mrs. George Freedman of Whitmore Road is sojourning in Hot
Springs, Ark.
Mr. and Mrs. Sol Pearlman will have open house on Sunday,
June 23, 3 to 5 p. m., in honor of the graduation of their daughter,
Helen. Mae, from Central High School. No cards.
A food and clothing shower for direct shipment to European
survivors will be held at the home of Mrs. Goldie Fleisher, 2985

In honor of Miss Norma Cherwin, whose marriage to Frank
Boxman will take place. on June 23, a bridal shower was given
by Mrs. Robert Stein and Mrs. Jack Glasser at the Lee Plaza on
June 11. A bridal shower will be given in her honor on June 18
by Mesdames Ben Boxman, Harry Boxman and Oscar Boxman.
On the occasion of the dinner and reception to be given on
Sunday evening at Fort Wayne Hotel, in honor of the Bar Mitzvah
of Donald Stillman, son of Dr. and Mrs. L. J. Stillman of 18257
Pennington Drive, the following anniversaries also will be observed:
40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. Garelik, parents of
Mrs. Stillman; 20th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. P. Kramer,

University College of Education. She is a member of Sigma Theta

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wineman of Hamilton Drive have left
for Gaylord, Mich. where they will spend the summer at their
lodge.
Miss Betty Lewis, a .student at Connecticut College in New
'London, Conn., is spending the summer vaeation with her parents,
Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Lewis of Huntington Woods.
Dr. and Mrs.. Harold Rattner of Wellesly Dr. returned Monday
from a week in New York.
Miss Bunny Zemon returned on Wednesday from Northamp-
ton, Mass., where she attended Smith Callege, to spend a few
weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julian Zemon of Wilde-
mere Ave., before leaving for New York where she will attend
the• summer• session at Columbia University.
Mrs. Joseph. N. Keidan of Calvert Ave. has returned from
Brooklyn, where she was visiting her son-in-law and daughter,
Dr. and Mrs. A. David Horowitz.
Mrs. Louis Rosenthal-and her daughter, Marjory,' of the Belcrest
Hotel returned Monday frorn Pittsburgh where they spent a few
days visiting with relatives.
Lt. (jg ) Cornell Janeway who has been in the navy for ,three
years, including 21/2 years service in the Pacific area, is on terminal
leave and is at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jane-
way of Canterbury Rd.
Mrs. Simon Shetzer of Burlingame Ave. and her sister Mrs.
Theodore Thal of Columbus, 0., are spending a fortnight in
Martinsville, Ind.
Mrs. E. Pearlman of Los Angeles is the guest of her brother
and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Borshaw of Prairie Ave.
Miss Mary Wilkus, who has been attending the University of
Colorado in Boulder, Colo., is spending the summer vacation with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Wilkus of Boston Blvd.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dunitz of Los Angeles are guests at the
Statler Hotel while visiting with relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Jules Klein of Calvert Ave., had as their guest,
Mrs. Klein's sister, Mrs. Harry Jacobsen of Cleveland.
Mrs. Samuel Schaflander of Merrick Ave. has returned from
a visit in• Baltimore and New York.
Mrs. Julius Howard of Los Angeles is stopping at the Book
Cadillac Hotel while visiting her children, Mr. and Mrs. Mark
Howard of Ohio Ave. Her daughter, Mrs. Warren Keese (Rene
Howard) of Chicago spent the last week-end with her family.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Agree of Flint were the guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Ezra Zatkin of Adelaide Ave. last week-end.
Lt. (jg) Sydney S. Levine who has been in the navy for the
last two years, is on terminal leave and with Mrs. Levine and
their small son, Ronald, are back in their home at 900 Whit-

Russian Relief Groups
To Separate Shortly

NEW YORK—Because the Jew-
ish Council for Russian Relief,
Inc., plans to,.continue its activi-
ties into 1947, while the American
Society for Russian Relief, Inc.,
will conclude all appeals to the
public next Dec. 31, the two or-
ganizations soon will separate, it
was reported in a joint announce-
ment by Edward C. Carter, presi-
dent of the Society, and Louis
Levine, national chairman of the
Jewish Council.
Mr. Levine explained that the
separation would permit the
Council to fulfill the program
adopted at its fifth annual confer-
ence last May by 2,400 represen-
tatives of 1,485 national and local
American Jewish groups.

2 Detroiters Among Them

25 Jews Commissioned
At West Point Graduation

WEST POINT, N. Y.—Two Detroiters, Beryl Leve and
Bernard A. Petrie, were among the 25 Jewish cadets to be
graduated from the United States Military Academy last week,
the largest group of Jewish youths to be commissioned at one
time in the history of the institution.
Each received Jewish Publication Society Bibles from the
National JWB at graduation . services of the Jewish Chapel
Squad which preceded the annual commencement exercises.
Each Bible 'had the name of the recipient inscribed on the
cover in gold.
The services were conducted by Rabbi Marcus Kramer of
Poughkeepsie, former Army chaplain, who, through the JWB
regularly conducts services for the Jewish cadets at West Point.
Rabbi William F. Rosenblum, of New York, a member
of the Committee on Army and Navy Religious Activities of
the National Jewish Welfare Board, preached the baccalaureate
sermon. West Point now has the largest enrollment of
Jewish cadets in its history.

Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Roth are
•honeymooning in the East. They
were married last Sunday. Mrs.
Roth is the former Joyce Ann
Shapiro, daughter of Mrs. Irvin
J. Shapiro, of Elmhurst Ave., and
the late Mr. Shapiro.
Mr. Roth is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. William Roth of Canterbury
Road. The wedding ceremony,
performed by Rabbi Hershman,
was at 'the home of the bride-
groom's parents.

Zion Immigration

NEW YORK (JPS)—If Amer-
ica is to demand the opening of
Palestine to 100,000 European
`Jews, the U. S. government must
be prepared "to back with the
nation's full power and prestige
a joint undertaking to insure
the Jewish imigrants safe con-
duct and security upon arrival
in Palestine," the New York
Herald TribUne declared in an
editorial, June 6.
The editorial was a comment
on a full-page advertisement,
published in the American press,
signed by '75 prominent Amer-
icans representing many profes-
sions and all shades of political
opinion, demanding that Presi-
dent Truman take a firm stand
on the immediate admission of
100,000 Jews to Palestine and
direct the State Department to
implement that policy.

Prof. Albert Einstein; Herbert H.
Lehman; Henry Luce, Life, Time
and Fortune publisher; Darryl
Zanuck, film producer; Walter
Reuther, head of the UAW-CIO;
William Green, president of the
AFL, and Prof. John Dewey.
