Cannot Exaggerate
Urgency, Johnston
Says of UJA Drive

The 1,400,000 Jewish survivors
of Europe "are assailed by pover-
ty and hunger, by fear and des-
pair," Eric Johnston, president of
the Motion Picture Association
and former president of the
United States Chamber of Com-
merce, emphasized in a plea for
non-sectarian nationwide support
of the $100,000,000 campaign of
the United Jewish Appeal.
Mr. Johnston, stating that "it
is impossible to exaggerate • the
terrible urgency" of the crisis
threatening the remnants of the
Jewish people of Europe, stress-
ed that the "magnanimous heart
of the American people" was the
sole "life-giving power which
can save them from a fate of
complete j extinction."
