J.N.F. Council Condemns
Zion Land Restrictions

Detroit Family Gives

Defroiters Urge Fight to a Finish to Prevent Harm to Land-
Redemption Agency in Palestine; William Hordes
Re-Elected President at Annual Meeting

Jakubowicz Donation Honors
Son, Donald, Discharged-
- From Navy

The Jewish National Fund Council of Detroit, at its
annual meeting held on Monday evening, went on record
condemning any effort on the part of the Palestine govern-
ment to curtail activities of the land-purchasing agency of
the Zionist movement, and demanded that the national
and world JNF offices should fight to a finish for reten-
tion of the rights of the JNF.

Some years ago, in the little
community of Blaszki, near Lodz,
in Poland, Mendel and Gitel •Jak-
ubowicz, now living at 15855
Northlawn, De-
troit, bought two
lots in Palestine,
north of Haifa,
with the inten-
tion eventually
of settling in
Palestine.
Later they
moved to , Dan-
zig and in 1938
were fortunate
enough to be D. Jakubowicz
able to come to the United
States.
Their 22-year-old son, David,
enlisted in the Navy.
Last week, honoring their son's
honorable discharge from the
Navy, Mr. and Mrs. Jakubowicz
donated the two Palestine lots to
the Jewish National Fund.
William Hordes, who announced
the gift, commented:
"The two lots today may be
worth $10,000. It is a magnificent
gift and we are grateful to the
Jakubowicz family for it."
David Jakubowicz, a Wayne
student before his enlistment,
will resume his studies at the
university.

William -Hordes, who was re-
elected president of - the JNF
Council, outlining the progress
of the JNF and proposing
the resolution, declared that
friends of the fund will not be
deterred by threats and that, on
the contrary, they will redouble
their efforts to redeem as much
land as possible which is to be
made the property of the entire
Jewish people.

Basis for Action

(Action taken by the Detroit
JNE Council is based on, the
following Jewish Telegraphic
Agency cable from Jerusalem:
(The Palestine Government
is reported to be preparing a
revision of the land laws which
would provide for dissolution
of the Jewish National_ Fund,
it was learned from reliable
sources.
(Allegedly -based on the in-
quiry commis sion'S recom-
mendation that the land legis-
lation be revised so as to al-
low Jews to purchase holdings
anywhere in the country, the
new regulations would divide
the JNF's cultivated land
among the present occupants
and throw open its ,reserve
holdings to joint Arab-Jewish
colonization.
(Although it would abandon
the division of Palestine into
zones, in many of which Jews
are now barred from purchas-
ing land, the law as presently
drafted would make it virtual-
ly impossible for Jews to
acquire land any place, the
Jewish Telegraphic Agency in-
formant said.
(The revised regulations
must be approved by the
Colonial Office in London, but
it is understood that the Pal-
estine Government and the
Colonial Secretary have al-
ready exchanged views con-
cerning the proposed changes.)

Anders' Men Attack
Children in Poland

GENEVA, ( J T A ) — Armed
guards keep 24-hour watch on
Youth Aliyah homes in Poland
to prevent attacks by units of the
underground forces commanded
by Gen. Wladyslaw Anders, com-
mander of Polish troops in Italy,
it was disclosed here by the Po-
lish delegate to the first • post-
war conference of the European
sections of the Youth Aliyah or-
ganization. •
The delegate charged that
Jewish children were becoming
the innocent 'victims of the clash
between the anti-Government
and Government forces. He said
that althoAgh the Government
is extremely friendly to the
Jews, it is powerless to curb the
assaults.
He revealed that although for
political reasons the Soviet mili-
tary forces still in Poland cannot
intervene officially in the situa-
tion, in many cases Soviet officers
have on their own initiative tak-
en action against the anti-Sem-
itic, anti-Government bands.
