Joseph L. manual entitled `Shevuoth' It wasn't so long ago that De- troiters were linking the name of Maj. Max Weil with those of the "one man army of Bataan," Capt. Arthur W. Wermuth, and Lt. Gen. Doolittle. Weil's wife, Mrs. Doolittle, and Mrs. Wer- muth were guests of honor of the city in a ceremony in front of city hall. In 1942, three tanks, do- nated by citizens in a "Buy a Tank" drive, were named after the heroes. But Weil's friends_ among for- mer students of Wayne Univer- sity were determined that his name would not be forgotten. To this end they began a drive to raise money for a memorial to honor the hero. Now, Weil's re- cord will live through the Max Weil Metnorial Scholarship Fund which will be used to aid deserv- ing high school students continue in higher education at Wayne University.
