Leaders of SOS Collection in Detroit Area
Complete 40,00.1b. Shipment to Survivors

Detroit's First
`SOS' Donations
Sent Overseas

A. carload of 40,000 pounds of
food, clothing and comfort items,
Detroit's first contribution to the
SOS Emergency Collection Drive,
was shipped from here on Friday,
May 10. Arrangements for the
shipment were made by Henry-
W. Stark, director in charge of
shipping from Detroit and neigh-
boring communities. Mrs. Harry
Singer, city-vice chairman and
Mrs. Henry W. Stark, co-chair,
man of the local drive.
Emphasizing that this is only a
small part . of the supplies which
must be sent overseas to supple-
rhent the low standard of living
of Europe's surviving Jews, the
local SOS Committee urged that
Detroiters continue to give gen-
erously to the drive. Nationally,
the drive, launched originally by
the Joint Distribution Commit-
tee, has already raised 1,400,000
pounds of supplies, or one pound
for each surviving Jew.
