Mrs. Blacher Heads
Temple Israel Women

At the annual luncheon held at
the Book Cadillac Hotel on May
13, Mrs. Samuel Blacher was in-
stalled as president of the Tem-
ple Israel Sisterhood. Mrs. Samuel
B. Danta, retiring president, was
elected as honorary president for
life.
Mrs. Blacher is well known in
organization work, having served
as president of the Neugarten
Medical Aid and recording secre-
tary of the League of Jewish
Women's Organizations. She is
chairman of the Peace Commit-
tee on . the Michigan Federation
of Temple Sisterhoods.
In addition to the president,

Haivri Hatzair to Hold
30 Meeting This Sunday

Haivri Hatzair, Hebrew youth
movement of America, will hold
its third meeting at the home of
David Eisenberg, 2954 Elmhurst,
Sunday, May 19, at 8:30 p. m.
Haivri Hatzair is the youth
movement of the Histadruth Iv-
rith of America. This organization
works for the furtherance of He-
brew culture among American
Jewish youth.
A social, literary, and athletic
program is carried on by Haivri
Hatzair. NIV is the literary Mag-
azine published by this youth
movement. Branches now are
operated in all major cities
Machaneh Massad, located in
the Pocono Hills of Pennsylvania,
is the first summer camp estab-
lished by Haivri Hatzair. There,
200 campers, boys and girls, live
all summer in a complete He-
brew environment under the su-
pervision of counselors and spe-
cial personnel.

Mrs. Abe Katzman was elect-
ed president of the Sisterhood' of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek at the an-
nual meeting on Monday. Other

seas survivors.

On Folks Chorus
Concert at Masonic

Jewish Folk Chorus, directed
by Henri Goldberg, will present
its 21st annual concert Sunday,
May 26, at 8 p. m. at the Scottish
Rite Cathedral of M as o n i c
Temple. Besides several groups
of Yiddish, Hebrew and English
songs the main .feature will be
the oratorio "Moshiach Ben
Yosef," by Jacob Schaefer, to be
heard in Detroit for the first
time.
The composer of the famous
"Tzvei Brider" has 'risen to even
greater heights in this music
written to the poem of Bainush
.Steinman.
Lilith, the. Queen of Darkness,
will be sung by the eminent dra-
matic soprano, Gertrude Ribla,
known in Detroit for her per-
formances as Leonore . in Il Tro-
vatore and the title rol
e Aida.
She has just achieved a sensa-
tional.success as Santuzza in Cav-
aleria Rusticanna at the New
York City Center Opera. She
also will present a group of arias
and Jewish folk songs accom-
panied by Margaret Mannebach,
Pianist of the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra. ACcompanist for the

cessful drive for funds for over-
seas relief. Of the sum raised
$1,000 was allocated for the S.O.S.
food drive; $1,450 for the national
Bnai Brith relief program; $250.
for children's recreational equip-
ment and $600 toward the "Adopt
a Family" plan.
Mrs: Morris Weinberg, Mrs.
Max Goldhoff and Mrs. Allan
Laban won prizes for largest
amounts, raised. The chairman of
the project was Mrs. Gerald
Goldberg.
Other philanthropies contribut-
ed to froth funds raised by the

Camp Kinneret of Habonirn,
labor Zionist youth; will begin
its ninth season on July 7.
One of 11 such camps in the
U. S. and Canada, Kinneret is
located five miles from Chelsea,
Mich.
. The three basic principles of
camp Kvutza are: self labor, co-
operative living and self-govern-
ment.
Kinneret was built entirely on
the self-labor . theory. Only a
cook and a nurse are employed.
Two closely interwoven theore-
tical principles underlie every
camp activity: Judaism and Zion-
ism. Through . Oneg Shabbat,
holiday celebrations, singing,
dancing, reading and study cir-
cles, an historical sense and an
identification with • the past and
present struggle of the Jewish
people is brought out.
The camp is run on a non-
profit, sustaining basis with non-
