Jews Demand Objectivity
In Coining Palestine Census
JERUSALEM (JTA)—The Pales-
tine Jewish community will not
participate in the population cen-
sus for this Autumn unless it is
given adequate guarantees that
the census will be absolutely ob-
jective, the executive committee
of the Jewish National Council
has announced.
It has suggested to the Palestine
Government that a date be fixed
for elections of officials of the
Jerusalem municipality.

Young Israel's 23rd annivers-
ary dinner, to be . held Sunday,
May 12, at the Shaarey Zedek
social hall, will be dedicated to
the theme of "Spiritual Recon-
version" in the cornmunity. Stress
will be placed on the role to be
played in this reconversion by
Young Israel's projected youth
center ,to be erected on Dexter
near Fullerton. Rabbi Dr. H. Rap-
hael Gold will be the guest
speaker.
Preparation for Young Israel's
share in spiritual reconversion
began at the organization's "Wel-
come Home" dinner April 10, at
which a large group of veterans
were inducted into the organiza-
tion.
Overflowing attendance at serv-
ices in Young Israel's two syna-
gogues in the Yeshivath Beth Ye-
hudah and the Joy Road branch
constitutes another part of Young
Israel's share in reconversion.
Plans for the Young Israel cen-
ter have been approved by the
city building department and
have been submitted to the
C.P.A. construction division for
approval. An early construction
permit is expected.

NEW YORK (JPS)—Warning
that the contemplated release of
Haj Amin el Husseini, former
Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and an
indicted Axis war criminal,
"would greatly harm the cause
of peace and the international
prestige of renascent France,"
the American Jewish Conference
has urged French Foreign Minis-
ter Bidault, to take steps to pre-
vent such action.
In a cable to Mr. Bidault, Henry
Monsky, chairman of the Confer-
ence's Interim Committee, assert-
ed that the planned release of the
Mufti, first reported, in a Reuters
dispatch quoting a French Foreign
Office spokesman, would_ involve
France in a violation of the Unit-
ed Nations pledge to prosecute
all war criminals.
"The American Jewish Confer-
ence representing 63 national
Jewish organizations. .. conveys
to you the deep concern of Ameri-
can Jewry in the possible effect
of release of a known Axis colla-
borator and Nazi propagandist . ."
Mr. Monsky's cable reads.
