I ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gendil and their daughter, Lorraine, of
Glendale Ave. have returned from Miami Beach, Fla., where they
spent the winter months.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kert, their daughter and two sons of
Toronto, are spending the holiday week with Mrs. Kert's parents'
Mr. and Mrs. Simon Meretsky of Windsor.
Ethal Levine, a student at the University of Chicago, is spend-
ing a few days vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Levine of Calvert Ave.
Cpl. Herbert H. Miller, who has been in service for the last 38
months, including 13 months in the ETO, has received his discharge
and is now at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Miller of
Calvert Ave. His brother-in-law, Lt. ,William Engelson, who has
been on terminal leave after 51 months service, including 33 months
in the Mediterranean area, has received his discharge and with
Mrs. Engelson also is making his home with her parents.

Pvt. Rudolph Phillips returned on Wednesday to his post at
Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, after spending a few days furlough with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Phillips of Calvert Ave.
Pvt. Sheldon Krause, who is attached to the Post Finance at
Fort Sheridan, is spending a 10 days' furlough with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Krause of Calvert Ave.
Mrs. Harris Gallow of Webb Ave. and her daughter, Mrs. Ira
Copeland of New York City, who is visiting her mother, are spend-
ing the holiday week at the home of Mrs. Gallow's son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Globerson of Leslie Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Robbins entertained at a dinner party at
their home on April 13 for the following: Mr. and Mrs. George Ed-
wards, Miss Cleo McCain, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tendler and Frank
X. Martel.
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Havis celebrated their 24th wedding
anniversary at a dinner in their honor by their son and daughter,
Samuel and Sonia, on April 7, at Zack's Catering. Rabbi Rabino-
witz officiated at a mock ceremony. Guests included the bride's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Topor, Mr. and Mrs. M. Weinger,
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Topor, Harry Topor and his fiancee, Jean
Epstein.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Goldenberg (Joyce Lansberg) recently
returned from Winnipeg where Mr. Goldenberg was stationed with
the RCAF. He has been in service six years. They are residing with
Mr. and Mrs. Josph Landsberg at 17344 Greenlawn.
Mrs. Minnie Goldsmith of Greenlawn Ave. has returned after
a three-month ,visit in Los Angeles.

Adler Sings Latest
Hymns at Young-Levine Wedding

The latest Palestinian Hebrew
songs had their premiere on this
continent in Windsor, last Sunday
evening, when Cantor Hyman Ad-
ler of Congregation Bnai David,
Detroit, sang them to an apprecia-
tive audience at Congregation
Shaar Hashomayim, at the mar-
riage of Miss Bina Levine and
Irving Young.
Cantor Adler had just rec eived
several of the latest Palestinian
songs and introduced them for the
first time at this event. He was
accompanied by Dan Frohman,
Rabbi Benjamin Groner and
Cantor Adler officiated at the
marriage of Miss Levine, who is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Levine of Glendale Ave.
Mr. Young is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Young of Tux-
edo Ave.
The bride is a sophomore, at
Wayne University.
The bridegroom is a senior at
the Wayne University College of
Medicine and is an honor student,
having been elected to Alpha
Omega Alpha. He is a grandson
of the famous Rabbi Litvas.
The wedding ceremony and the
dinner Were attended by 300
guests from Detroit and Windsor

Aesculapian Auxiliary
Continues. Efforts for
All Worthy Causes

Founded in 1929 by a group of
druggists' wives, Aesculapian
Ladies Auxiliary was organized
to promote social activities for
families of Jewish druggists.
This group has allocated money
to the War Chest, Youth Alliyah,
Red Cross and other causes.
The auxiliary contributed to-
wards the. maintainence of the
pharmacy at the Jewish Home for
the Aged and established a sch-
olarship fund for needy students
in the Wayne University Phar-
macy Department.
Since its initiation, the group
participated actively and unceas-
ingly in the overall USO-JWB
program for service personnel.
President of the group is Mrs.
A. A. Zagel while Mrs. Asher
Smith is USO chairman.

League for Labor Palestine
To Meet at Schreier Home
The next meeting of Chapter I
of the League for Labor Palestine
will be held next Friday, April
26, at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Alex Schreier, 3238 Leslie. A pro-
gram is being planned.

USO-JWB honor roll for excep-
tional war services. ,
Organized seven years ago for
the purpose of caring ford educat-
ing, and giving spiritual guidance
to refugee and native Palestinian
children in the 33 Mizrachi wo-
men's projects in Palestine,
Young Women's Mizrachi assum-
ed additional responsibilities with
the outbreak of World War II.
They have been active in lied
Cross and bond drives.
This organization participated
since 1942 at the Jewish Center,
Metropolitan USO, and at Hotel
Belcrest in behalf of JWB-USO.
Mrs. Philip P. Fealk is presi-
dent of the group.
Mrs. Philip Schreiber and Miss
Sonia Nusholtz, co-chairmen of
the USO Committee, served on
the original USO committee
since its inception in 1942.

Engagements

Mrs. - Dorothy Chatlin of Glad-
stone Ave., announces the en-
gagement of her daughter, Fay-
anne, to Harry Sadovitz, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sadovitz also
of Gladstone Ave. The bride-
elect attended Wayne University
and her fiance was recently dis-
charged from the army after
serving over two years in the
South Pacific.

nounces the engagement of her
daughter, Freda Knee, to Howard
S. - Lipsius of Richmond, Va. Mr.
Lipsius was recently dischaned
from the U. S. Navy. He is the
son of Alexander Lipsius of At-
lanta, Ga. The wedding will take
place in July.

gagement of their daughter, Bet-
ty, to Sidney David Weiss, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Weiss of
Elmhurst Ave. Both are grad-

composition by Julius Chajes of
Detroit, was given a world pre-
miere on April 7 in Columbus, 0.
The work, dedicated to Dr.
Stephen W4se, was performed by
the Izler Solomon String Quartet
of the Columbus Philharmonic
Orchestra. A capacity audience
of over 1,200 filled the audito-
rium. The concert was sponsored
by the Zionist Organization of
Columbus.
