For Allied Jewish Campaign
Workers' Rally Launches
Junior Division Campaign
The Junior Division of the Allied Jewish Campaign of
opened its drive at a workers' rally on Thursday in
the social hall of Congregation Shaarey Zedek, when Sol J.
Schwartz, campaign chairman, described the functions of the
groups in the Junior Division. He stressed that it should be
emphasized to contributors 'that they are being requested to

make one pledge for the whole
year and that the pledge may
be paid in installments.
Two movies, one narrated by
Orson Welles, depicting the plight
of Jewish survivors in Europe,
and an animated cartoon on cam-
paign soliciting, were shown at
the rally. A social program and
dancing followed the educational
part of the meeting.
Sub-groups in the Junior Divis-
ion held separate meetings dur-
ing the week and recruited more
workers for the drive.

The special gifts division, head-
ed by Henry N. Ehrlich and Alex
J. Etkin, announced that addi-
tional volunteers have been re-

Special Gifts Rally
At the special gifts rally held
April 10 at the Book Cadillac
Hotel, Brig. Gen. Elliott Roose-
velt, in a stirring address, urged
strong support of the emergency
Detroit $2,000,000 drive because
"Jews suffered the most and won
-the least from the peace."
Gen. Roosevelt declared in his
address that groups in this coun-
try which have strong racial and
religious . prejudices "must go."
He added: "We must wipe from
our high positions men like Sen.
Bilbo and Rep. Rankin."

wa,s a guest at the dinner.
Edmund I. Kaufmann of Wash-
ington and Harold J. Goldenberg
of Minneapolis, two of the coun-
try's largest givers to the United
Jewish Appeal ($250,000 and $75,-
000 respectively) were the other
two speakers at the dinner.

serve as captains, completing the
list of 16.

Division JC, headed by Norman
Naimark and Sylvia Collins, an-
nounced that Bernard Zack, Har-
old Weisman, Anne Lewis and
Gwen Adelson had volunteered
as captains bringing its total to 16.
Division JE
Nita Zeff has been added to the
list of captains in Division JE.
Division JF
Edward A. Simon and Ann
Brooks announced that Pearl
Sharfman and Dorothy Berenson
will be captains in Division JF.

this week announced the appoint-
ment of officers and committeee
chairmen for the unprecedented
mercy drive for the Joint Distri-
bution Committee, United Pales-
tine Appeal and National Refu-
gee service.
The vice-chairmen heading the
major divisions of the $2,000,000
campaign are Sidney J. Allen,
corporation gifts; Maurice Arons-
son and William H. Frank, special
gifts; Irving W. Blumberg, trades
and professions; Mrs. Robert J.
Newman, women's division.
Meyer L. Prentis is treasurer of
the campaign.
Advisory Committee
Henry Wineman is chairman of
the advisory committee, which
will have as its members Fred
M. Butzel, Mrs. Joseph H. Ehr-
lich, Clarence H. Enggass, Wil-
liam Friedman, Julian H. Krolik
and Abraham Srere.
