Gift of a Comb
Can Boost Morale
Of Ragged Survivor

Urgent Need of Simple
Things Revealed at SOS
Collection Launching

The simple, everyday articles
American women take for grant-
ed—a comb, a pocket mirror, a
note pencil—are among the items
most urgently needed to help
restore Europe's survivors to
lives of decency and dignity, ac-
cording to Mrs. Anna M. Rosen-
berg, former government emis-
sary in Europe, who tells how
she gave a pair of lipsticks to
"two ragged, ageless women"
while visiting the . Nordhausen
concentration camp, and saw
their faces "light with happi-
ness."
Mrs. Rosenberg spoke at a
luncheon meeting in New York
marking the official national
launching of the S. 0. S. collec-
tion, an emergency project of
the Joint Distribution Committee
to provide 20,000,000 additional
pounds of relief supplies for
Jewish survivors overseas. More
than half a million pounds of
food, clothing, medicines and
comfort items already have been
collected.
The S.O.S. drive is supple-
mentary to the regular program
of the JDC, major American
agency for the relief and rehab-
ilitation of distressed Jews over-
seas, which has allocated for the
first three months of 1946 more
than $13,754,000 in its assistance
programs in nearly 50 countries
throughout - the world.

The government will adhere to
the Constitution, which promises
equality to all citizens, Gen. Ur-
dapilleta said. He promised that
