S. Troops and DP's S. Lifshitz of Toronto, Ont., eminent leader of Canadian Jew- ry and editor of the Canadian Jewish Weekly, will address a mass meeting on Wednesday, FRANKFURT (JTA)—Peaceful demonstrations in which 35,000 displaced Jews participated took place in 17 camps for Jews through- out the American zone, in protest against the killing by the German police of a displaced Jew, Samuel Denziger, during a raid on a Jewish camp near Stuttgart last month. Military police were on the alert, and a cordon of troops was thrown around several of the camps, but the demonstrations passed quietly, and there was no violence. At Munich, the Jews attempted to march out of the camp, but were turned back at the gates. Representatives of regional committees of liberated Jews in Greater Hesse met April 4 at the Zeilsheim camp and discussed Methods of establishing better relations between the U. S. troops and the Jews in the DP camps. The 38 delegates participating in the conference represented both Jews who are still in camps and those who reside in outside communities. Among the questions discussed was the problem of assigning more UNRRA food to Jews who .live outside the camps and the establishment of more synagogues. Sixty harassed Jews who recently arrived here from Breslau, capital of what was formerly German Silesia and which is now Polish territory, told the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency of the widespread anti-Semitism in that city, which the Polish'authorities have renamed Wroclaw. They revealed that 1,200 Jews left Breslau for Thuringia, in the Russian zone, at the invi- tation of the Soviet-sponsored German Government there. First Transport of Displaced Jews to Sail for U. S. May 1 FRANKFURT (JTA)—Between 800 and 900 displaced persons, most of them Jews, will sail for the U. S. on May 1, the AMG an- nounced. The first group will leave Munich on April 26, while other groups will leave Frankfurt and Stuttgart the following day. Present plans call for shipping between 800 and 900 weekly to the United States, with the provi- sion, however, that not more than 3,900 permits will be issued in any one month. The Displaced Rabbi Here from Zion In Behalf of Orphans Rabbi Isaac Fried came to De- troit this week in the interest of Diskin Orphanage of Palestine. His mission here is endorsed by the local rabbis who point to the traditional support given by Jew- ish communities to this orphan- age. Rabbi Fried has brought with him the endorsement of Dr. Isaac Herzog, Chief Rabbi of Palestine. Dr. Herzog points to the "grave financial crisis" in which the Dis- kin Orphanage finds itself and he appeals to Jews everywhere to support the institution. The Arab population of Palestine during the war was approximate ly • 1,100,000, as against a Jewish population of about 550,000.
