THE JEWISH NEWS

58 Germans Deny
Attacking Jews
In 1938 Pogroms

Jewish News Greeted by
Its Contemporary in Denver
Editor, The Jewish News:
.
editor of the Intermountain
Jewish News which last week
celebrated its third birthday un-
der our management, I Wish to
extend birthday greetings to the
four - year old Detroit Jewish
News.
After reading your report to
your readers, NI am sure that you
have fulfilled your 1942 credo,
and wish you many years of
growth and continued success.
May Detroit. and Michigan Jewry
continue the support which has
made: The Detroit Jewish News
one of the top English-Jewish
papers in the country, and its
editor a credit to the profession,
as manifest by his recent re-
election as president of the
American Association of English-
Jewish Newspapers.
Sincerely,
ROBERT GAMZEY,
Editor, Intermountain
Jewish News,
Denver, Colo.

NUREMBERG, (JTA)—The 58
Germans being tried at Weissen-
burg for attacks -all Jews, Jew-
ish property and synagogues
daring the November, 1938 po-
[(ion's, which were staged follow-
ing. the assassination of Nazi dip-
lomat Ernst vom Rath, have all
pleaded not guilty. The only
. Sur
triving. Jew in the Weissenburg
district was to testify this week.
In another aftermath of the
1938 outbreaks, the city council
of the north Bavarian town of
Lichienfels has voted that the
buildings formerly used by the
:Jewish congregation there be
repaired at the expense of those
vilio participated in their de-
struction.
As recently as April, 1944, on
the eve of the Allied invasion of
Europe, Nazi diplomats from
all parts of the world were sum-
moned to a special conference in
Germany at which they discuss-
ed means of intensifying anti-
-&emitic activities in America and
the Far East, as well as in
rope, it was revealed here.
• British prosecutors submitted
.a German Foregin Office report.
On the meeting, which was dub-
bed a "Conference of Consultants
On the Jewish Question, "Nazi
representatives in China. and Jap
an were among those present,
and one of the chief topics was a
discussion • of the 20,000 Jewish
refugees in Shanghai.
Nazi Foreign Minister von Rib-
bentrop was exposed as one of
the major cogs in the German
anti-Semitic propaganda machine
abroad, as he opened his defense.
The first witness introduced by
Von Ribbentrop's counsel was a
former official of the Foreign
`Ministry .named Steengracht, who
-attempted to picture his one-time
chief as an opponent of anti-
'Jewish measures. He wilted
however, when on cross-exam-
ination British prosecutors Con-
fronted him with several doeu-
ments linking Von Ribbentrop to
anti-Jewish activities.

Criticizes Council Exclusion
Of Jewish Fraternal Order
Editor, The Jewish News:
Since the Communist party
party appears in our voting ballot
and since the Soviet government
is a respected member of the
United Nations OrganizatiOn,
what is the matter with the mem-
bers of the Jewish Community
Council who voted against the ad-
mission of the Jewish Fraternal
Order?
It seems to me that the result
of this controversy shows the
need for enlightened thinking on
the subject. of democracy and
unanimity.
