Two Passover Week Issues



Passover will be observed during the week of April 15
through 'April 22.
The first Passover Seder will be observed on Monday
night, April 15. The first two days of Passover fall on Tuesday
and Wednesday, April 16 and 17. The two concluding days of
Passover occur on Monday and Tuesday, April 22 'and 23.
On account of Passover, our readers and publicity writers
are asked to note the following holiday deadlines:
For our issue of April-19, all copy will have to be in the
hands of the editor before 2 p. m. on Friday, April 12.
For our issue of April 26, all copy will have to be in the
hands of the editor before 2 p. m. on Friday, April 19.
Copy reaching our office after these deadlines will be
retained for later issues if timely.

Large Berlin Bakery Makes 85,000
Pounds Matzoth for German Jews

PARIS, (JTA) — For the first
time in 10 years, the Jews of
Berlin are baking matzoth for
Passover, it was announced here
by Joint Distribution Committee
headquarters, which reported
that the J.D.C. will provide the
Jews in various European coun-
tries with 1,866 ;000 pounds of
matzoth so that they may prop-
erly observe their frist Passover
since the fall of the 'Nazis.
More than 85,000 pounds of
matzoth have been asked -so far
in the Sarotti Fabrik, largest
bakery in Berlin. Special funds
have been provided by the J.D.C.
for this purpose, the announce-
ment said.
The J.D.C. will also provide
the Jews in Germany and Aus-
tria with 75,000 bottles of wine
and 15,000 Hagadahs which have
been purchased in Palestine, it
was revealed here. A special ap-
propriations of $500,000 for Pass-
over supplies, the largest amount
devoted to this purpose in the
organization's three decades of

relief and rehabilitation activi-
ties; has been used for the pur-
chase of food, clothing and other
supplies. Among these supplies
are almonds from Tangiers, mac-
aroons, raisins, and other food
products from the United States,
and a large shipment of new
shoes and clothing which arrived
in time for distribution ' before
Passover.
Nearly 1,500,000 pounds of
matzoth were shipped from the
United States, the announcement
said. The remainder \vas sent
mostly from Denmark, Holland
and Switzerland. The largest in-
dividual allotments are half-a-
million pounds each to Poland
and Hungary. Other allotments
are 375,000 pounds to Germany;
185,000 pounds to France; and
175,000 pounds each to Austria
and Italy. Approximately 100,000
pounds have been shipped to
Shanghai, China, where nearly
12,000 Jewish refugees depend on
the Joint Distribution Commit-
tee for their daily needs.
