Willis, Detroit at- torney, has been named state or- ganization director of the Ameri- can Veterans' committee, compos- ed of veterans of World War II. Charles G. Bolt', author of "The New Veteran", is chairman of the national p 1 a n- ning committee of the organiza- tion and among its members are Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr., Harold Stassen, S..S. Willis and Bill Mauldin. Mr. Willis was released from active duty a month ago. He is married to the former Dorothy Ressler of New York. They have two children, Sharon Lynn, 11, and Janet, 7. For many years he was active in Congregation . Shaarey Zedek, as scoutmaster of its Boy Scout troop, chairman of several Fath and Son banquets, a member of the Men's Club, and president of the Young People's society. He is now a member of Temple Israel and its Men's club. He is a leader in Junior Bar circles. He was elected the first chairman of the Juhior Bar con- ference at the convention in Milwaukee. He has been a mem- ber of the grievance committee of the State Bar of Michigan for nine years. Mr. Willis was commissioned a lieutenant (jg) in March, 1944, and served as a communications officer at naval air bases in Bra- zil. As state organization direct- or of AVC, he will be responsible for the formation of local chap- ters in Michigan. Rosenthal Discharged After 50 Mos. AAF Service S/Sgt. Jerome J. Rosenthal, 3042 Hurlbut, has been separated from the Army Air Forces at Fort Sheridan, Ill., after 50 months' service. Entering service Dec. 30, 1941, Rosenthal served at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., Scott Field, and at Dodge City, Kan., before embarking for the China-Burma- India Theater of Operations on Nov. 30, 1944. While overseas he served at several large air bases in various parts of India, and as assistant sergeant-major of the Eastern In- dia Air Depot. Previous to entering service, he was employed as branch man- ager for the Burton Abstract & Title Co. for three years, being in charge of their Dime Bldg. Branch. Page Nineteen City Council Approves Rouge Park for Monument to Baruch Spinoza Lt. Bigman Discharged Lt. Oscar Bigman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Bigman of 2547 Elmhurst, was discharged from the army on March 25. He w a s graduated from the Wayne •§Medical School at 22 and is a member of the honor scholar- ship society. In 1938 he' was awarded the United Hebrew Schools gold medal upon his Lt. Bigman graduatiori. After May 1 he will interne at Eloise Hospital. J. N. Lumberg Discharged Julian N. Lumberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Lumberg of 3308 Elmhurst, has returned to civilian life after 31 months in the armed forces, serving 24 months in the European Theater with the in- fantry. He resides with his wife, the former Sylvia Ghinasin, at the home of her parents in Los Angeles. BARUCH SPINOZA DR. NOAH E. ARONSTAM A project inaugurated in De- troit 12 years ago to commemo- rate the name of Baruch (Bene- dict) Spinoza bore fruit here last week when the City Council ap- proved a site in the recreation center of Rouge Park for the erection of a Spinoza monument. The request for permission to erect the monument was made by the Spinoza Tercentennial com- mittee, which was formed in 1934 to honor the 300th anniver- sary of the birth of Spinoza. Detroit, announced thatthe mon- ument will be erected by fall. Serving on the committee with Dr. Aronstam are Louis James Rosenberg and Councilman Frank Cody. Dr. Noah E.
