one Jew was wounded and 36 were arrested early Tuesday
in the vicinity of Tel Aviv in sporadic incidents intended to
cover the landings of 240 visa-less Jewish immigrants from
the motor schooner "Brigadier Wingate."
The immigrants landed at Haifa under a heavy guard
from the schooner which carried

Lt. Henry Bodzin
Killed in Action
The day that Pfc. Jack Bodzin
arrived home after his discharge
from the army, official word was
received by his parents, the Rev.
and Mrs. Morris Bodzin, 1940
Gladstone, that the body of their
other son in the service, 2nd Lt.
Henry J. Bodzin, had been found
in Germany and transferred to a
military cemetery in France.
Lt. Bodzin, a native of Detroit,
enlisted in the Air Corps in
March, 1942, and went overseas
in September; 1944. While sta-
tioned England he took a spe-
cial course in aerial navigation,
after which he engaged in 15
bombing missions.
On April 8, 1945, while serv-
ing as lead navigator with a crew
of nine, his plane ran into heavy
flak and the pilot ordered every-
one to bale out, as the bomb.:
carrying mechanism had been
damaged so as to prevent releas-
ing their load. The pilot was in-
jured in a crash landing and with
two others was taken prisoner.
Jack entered the service in
June, 1943, and went overseas
with the infantry in September
of the following year. He was
wounded during the Battle of the
Bulge and was awarded the
Purple Heart.
Other sisters and brothers, all
of Detroit, are: S. Jay, David S.,
Mrs. Rose Blitz, Harry R., Mrs.
Marian Duchan, Ruth, Yetta and
Esther. Henry was engaged to
marry Miss Natalie Costrell. Both
Henry and Jack were students
at Wayne university.

Truman Denies Intervening

President Says He Did Not Move fo Prevent the Resigna-
tion of Bartley Crum from American Body in Dispute
Over Procedure of Palestine Committee
WASHINGTON, (JTA)—Presi-
dent Truman denied here that he
had intervened with Bartley
Crum, American member of the
Anglo-American Committee o f
Inquiry on Palestine, to prevent
Crum from resigning. from the
inquiry body.
Earlier this week, reports stat-
ed that the President had pre-
vented Crum from resigning in
protest against the committee's
procedure and its failure to issue
an interim report recommending
- immediate action with regard to
Jews in camps in Germany and
Austria.

Inquiry Committee Hears
Palestine Government Aide
JERUSALEM, (JTA)—John V.
M. Shaw, chief secretary of the
Palestine government, and rank-
ing British administrative official
after High Commissioner Sir
Alan Cunningham, appeared be-
fore the full Anglo-American in-
quiry committee March 23. It is
presumed that Secretary Shaw
presented the official government
position at a closed session.
In a statement to the press,
the inquiry committee replied to
the American Zionist Emergency
Council's charges that the official
transcript of the committee's ses-
sions deliberately had omitted
those sections of the testimony of
Jamal el Husseini and Auni Bey
Abdul Hadi, Arab Higher Com-
mittee spokesmen, which adrn it-
ted the association between the
Nazis and the ex-Mufti. The
committee replied that the Arabs
had spoken in English with an
accent which was not familiar to
the American court reporter and
that he, therefore, had missed
parts of the witnesses' statements.
