Justice Dept. Branded
`Heartless' in Ordering
2 Stowaways Deported •

The American Committee for
Protection of Foreign . Born has
condemned as "heartless and in
violation of American traditions
of asylum, as well as President
Truman's statement of Dec. 22"
the action of Attorney General
Tom C. Clark in the cases of two
young Jewish refugees—Ghidu
Davidescu and Jehuda Rubinfeld
—who tried to enter the U. S. as
stowaways in NGvember, 1945, in
order to join relatives in this
country.
The committee stated that the
two young boys face immediate
return to Europe, despite the fact
that special legislation introduced
in Congress by Rep. Adolph J.
Sabath, of Illinois, cannot as yet
be considered by Congress. The
committee 'pointed out also that,
in two previous cases, similar to
those of Davidescu . and Rubin-
feld, the Justice Department per-
mitted the sto*aways to enter
the United States for temporary
stay in order to adjust their
status in this country.
