Gen. Bradley Guest
At Bnai Brith Affair

WASHINGTON—Gen. Omar N.
Bradley, Federal Administrator
of Veterans Affairs, will be guest
of honor at a luncheon of the
newly created National Veterans
Advisory Committee of Bnai•
Brith here, Monday noon, April
1, as the closing event of the
three-day conference of the com-
mittee and the National Post War
Service-Americanism Commission
of the Order.
Maj. Gen. Edward F. Witsell,
Adjutant General of the Army,
will present Gen. Gradley to the
gathering, which will include
high ranking government and
military officials, civic leaders
and representatives of national
veterans organizations.
Henry Monsky, president of
Bnai Brith, will be toastmaster
at the luncheon and will outline

B E I R U T, Lebanon (JTA)—
After he was held under guard
and incommunicado at Hotel Nor-
mandie here for 27 hours, Yehuda
Hellman, a Palestine citizen and
correspondent for the Palestine
Post, English-language daily, was
released and, as an eccentric anti-
climax to the affair, was sudden-
ly invited by Premier Sami Bey
Solh, of Lebanon, to be his guest
at a Palace banquet honoring the
sub-committee of the Anglo-
American Commission of Inquiry
on Palestine. -
Hellman, accompanied by the
same members of the secret po-
lice who had been guarding him
at his hotel where he was under
"protective custody," was greeted
at the palace by Terence Shone,
the British Minister, who said:
"I'm glad to see you. I personally
demanded your release. Such
things happen and misunder-
standings are natural."
A moment later Hellman, who,
after his room was searched, had
been asked by the secret police
whether he carried arms, was
greeted by Nicholas Bustros, di-
rector of protocol for the Leban-
ese government, and by the Leb-
anese director-general of the po-
lice, who both offered toasts to
his health. He then was present-
ed to the premier, who welcomed
him warmly and said, with an
elaborate gesture, "Make yourself
at home."
When Hellman departed for his
hotel, however, he discovered that
he was followed by the same se-
cret police detail. Moreover, his
passport and identity card have
still to be returned to him.
It is understood here that the
British envoy intervened with the
Lebanese police after Judge Jo-
seph C. Hutcheson, American
member of the commission and
its co-chairman, had remarked to
the ambassador that he was "an-
noyed by such Lebanese melo-
dramatics."

NEW YORK:—Strife in Pales-

can be minimized through in-
tensive development of the econ-

issued by the American Council
on Public Affairs of Washington.
Entitled "Palestine: Problem and
Promise", the - study presents a
detailed 10-year plan, covering
immigration, agriculture, manu-
facturing, transportation, _ a n d
other economic fields.
Several American economists,
headed by Robert R. Nathan, for-
mer deputy director of the Office
of War Mobilization and Recon-
version, prepared the study on
the basis of exhaustive research
in Palestine, Europe, and the
United States.
