Capt. Gitlin, 3 Years Home Relief Praised
In Army, Discharged For JWB-USO Efforts

Capt. Charles Gitlin, 2750 Elm-
hurst, has been separated from
the armed .forces at Camp Atter
bury, Indiana, after 3 1/2 years of
service.
Entering service July 31, 1942,

eral Hospital,

was chief of the Capt. Gitlin
surgical section at Darnall Gen-
eral Hospital, Danville, Ky.
A graduate of Bayonne, N. J.,
High School, and the University
of Michigan, Dr. Gitlin was the
first interne at Highland Park
General Hospital, where he con-
tinues to serve on the staff.
He is a member of the Ameri-
can Medical Assn., Michigan and
Wayne County Medical Socie-
ties, Highland Park Physicians'
Club and Maimonides Medical
Society. He has reopened his
office at 1610 Glendale.
During Dr. Gitlin's absence as
a member of the armed forces,
Mrs. Gitlin was active as com-
mander of the Canteen at the
Navy Recruiting Station in the
Federal bldg. She established
the placement bureau for Navy
Wives and Mothers and assisted
in recruiting services.

Home Relief Society's partici-
nation in the JWB-USO Program
is receiving praise from Jewish
Welfare Board leaders.
Organized 23 years ago by Mrs.
Harry M. Shulman, this group
has aided many families in
weathering the depression years.
Home Relief's program includes
arranging religious services for
patients in hospitals and dis-
tribution of religious articles and
gifts among the sick.
Since the outbreak of the war,
Home Relief has distributed 350
lap robes, has been sending 40
dozen home baked cookies each
month to Percy Jones Hospital
and has contributed 70 wheel-
chairs for Percy Jones amputees.
Mrs. Peter Miller is president
of the society, whose 275 mem-
bers assisted in the war efforts.
JWB-,USO co-chairmen are Mrs.
Charles E. Harris and Mrs. Wil-
liam Gordon. Mrs._ Maxwell
Emmer and Mrs. Samuel Arkin
previously acted as USO food
supervisors for three yearg. Mrs.
Barney Newman is chairman of
the Percy Jones cookies project.
