In Detroit on March 25

Glancing back over the years
from the pinna'cle of .her twelfth
American season, Miss Marian
Anderson, who will appear at
Masonic Auditorium on Monday
evening, March 25, remembers
the first of her European tours.
A Swedish manager, hearing of
her in Berlin in 1930 ; declared,
"An American girl with the
name • of Anderson must be a
success in. Sweden," After her
first concert he changed his
mind: the name didn't matter.
In one season the young • contral7
to gave 112 concerts:, sometimes
singing eight times in nine days..
On her first trip-to the Soviet
Union her train was held up
at the border while the Russian
customs officials played for 'their
own delight the entire collec-
tion of her - recordings.
