Dr. Weizmann Urges
On Campaign Headquarters
Jewish 'State Power'
At Palestine Inquiry For $2,000,000 Drive Here

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—Dr. Chaim Weizmann came be-
fore the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry on Palestine
on March 8 and in a calm but impassioned four-and-a-half-
hour statement pleaded with them to allow the building of
a Jewish homeland in Palestine.

High points of his testimony were:
1. Although he favors the eventual establishment of a
Jewish state in Palestine, when the JeWs are in a majority,
he does not demand the establishment of such a state im-
mediately, but wants maximum Jewish immigration.
2. He is not interested in the "trappings" of a Jewish
state, but wants "state power" for Jews to develop the coun-
try, and immediate abolition of the White Paper.
3. He wants peace with the Arabs and is willing to
meet them any time to discuss the future of the country.
4. He does not believe that there is any future in Europe
for Jews.
5. He revealed that Churchill, when Prime Minister,
promised that when the war ended, he would try to convince
the U. S. to go along with Zionist aspirations.
6.. He is "profoundly opposed" to violence.

Purim spells joy for the Jewish

households everywhere. As we

celebrate the downfall of the

Haman of old and his counterparts

in our own time, this joyous fes-

tival is a major occasion to remind

us that if justice is to rule on

earth, the dispossessed and unfor,

tunate survivors of Hitlerism must

be restored to dignity as human

beings. On Purim Jewry must

resolve that the causes which are

to aid these people—through our

approaching $2,000,000 Allied Jew-

ish Campaign—must receive our

.

ullest and most generous support.
