Miss Shever Engaged
To North Carolinian

ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Miss Ruth E. Stein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert C. Stein
of 2075 W. Philadelphia Ave., was entertained at a dinner at Hotel
Statler given by her family in honor of her 18th birthday.

Sgt. Lawrence Collins has returned from the Pacific Theater
of Operations after 23 months of service overseas and is at home
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Collins of Webb Ave.

Mrs. Rae Vehon, of Tuxedo Aye. has returned from Los Angeles
where she spent the past three months with hers children, Mr. and
Mrs. Foster Vehon, and her small granddaughter.

Miss Florence Ruth Grossman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo
Grossman of Glynn Court, has matriculated at the University of
Michigan in. Ann Arbor.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Smilo and sons, Herman, Martin and
Barney, are now residing in Beverly Hills, -Calif. Their son, Sidney,
is remaining in Detroit to manage the Smilo Soap Co.

Howard Rothberg of Chicago Blvd. gave a cocktail party on
March 2 for Tommy Dix, young stage and screen star now appearing
at the Statler Terrace Room. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs.
H. J. L. Frank Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Harry Justin Modell, Miss Barbara
Enggass, Milton Wagner, Miss Jane Helper, Miss Betty Frank and
Bob Smith, Adele and. Lester Neiman, Miss Marge Aronsson, Miss
Rita Stone and Almon Reading, Harold Frank, Arnold Kaufman
and Miss Rolla Jacob, Frank H. Davis III.
Saul R. Levin has left on a business trip to Mexico, Honduras,
Guatemala and Nicaragua. While in Honduras Mr. Levin will be
the guest of officials of that government which he represents as
Consul in this State.
Mrs. Harry Becker, a member of the board of the Women's
Division of the Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit, attended the
Mid-West Regional Conference of the National Women's Division
of the United Jewish Appeal in St. Louis on March 4.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Batchko of 9600 Dexter have returned from
a stay at Hot Springs, Ark.
Miss Pearl Pollack of New York is the house guest of Mr. and
Mrs. Ben Winsen of Grand Ave. Before returning home she will
visit with relatives in Toronto.
Dr. and Mrs. Robert A. Schiff of Sturtevant Ave. left for a
three-week vacation in Los Angeles, where they will attend the
wedding of their niece. They also expect to visit in Mexico before
returning home.
Miss Frederica J. Shoenfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Shoenfield of Ann Arbor, was elected to Radcliffe Chapter of Phi
Beta Kappa, honorary scholastic society. Frederica, a graduate of
University High School of Ann Arbor and winner of the Radcliffe
Regional Scholarship from Detroit in 1943, has just completed her
junior year at Radcliffe College, Cambridge, Mass.
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Goldstein of LaSalle Blvd. left for
Utica, N. Y., to attend the wedding of their grand-niece on March 10.
Ensign Stanley J. Winkelman, who recently returned from ser-
vice in the Pacific area, is spending a 10-day leave with Mrs. Winkel-
man and their small daughter, Andra, at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Wallace of Canterbury Rd. He is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Leon G. Winkelman of Fairfield Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Burton M. Lieberman and daughter, Amine, of
Dallas, Tex., spent a few days visiting with members of his family
enroute to Philadelphia where they will visit with her family. They
were the house guests of Mr. Lieberman's sister, Mrs. Himon Kaplan
of Roslyn Rd.
