Blumenau was known as a humble worker, al- ways ready to do his bit for his people and his country. Very eral years as a member of the City Council, being one of the youngest men ever to hold a Councilman's office there. Re- turning to Whittemore, he served as cashier in the bank there. He also served as Township Treasurer of Whittemore. Coming to Detroit in 1914, he was engaged in the retail busi- ness for .a number of years, until he entered the insurance busi- ness in 1921. In addition to active partici- pation in the Allied Jewish Cam- paign, Community Fund and War Chest drives, he has been active in the Jewish National Fund, Keren Hayesod, the Zion- ist Organization, Per f ec tion Lodge of the Masonic Order, Bnai Brith and numerous other causes. Ardent Zionist One of the founders of Probus Luncheon Club, he is one of the club's former presidents. He is the oldest living past master of Perfection Lockk which he con- tinues to serve as treasurer, a post he has held for 14 years. He is a pioneer Zionist, cher- ishes a Golden Book inscription and the honor that was accord- ed him as one of 23 outstanding workers for Jewish relief during the days of the leadership of David A. Brown. Since 1937 Mr. Blumenau has been manager of the Crown Life Insurance Co., with offices at the National Bank Bldg. Sey- mour Cohn joined his agency last year. Mr. BIumenau's agen- cy led the entire country's Crown Life agencies in the amount of business written in 1945. Mr. Blumenau has two daugh- ters, Mrs. Avery Fried of De- troit and Mrs. Norman Cohen of Toledo, and three grandchildren. Of his numerous hobbies, what he loves the most is to dabble in carpentry' and electrical ob- ects. . AARON J. His 60th birthday, which he will observe on Feb. 16, serves as occasion to recall his inter- esting background. Born Feb. 16, 1886, in Latvia, formerly Courland, part of Rus- sia, he was brought to this coun- try by his parents at the age of 7 and they settled in Whitte- more, Mich., where his father, the late Albert Blumenau, who died in 1928, operated a depart- ment store.
