Yeshivath Chachmey Lublin was
announced at the dinner on Jan.
6 at the Jewish Center, when
Rabbi Price of Toronto outlined
the importance of the Yeshivah
movement. New sponsors include
Mrs. Bookstein and Messrs. Yoles,
Shevach, Max Goldberg, Wolf
Cohen, Spigelman and M. Dorin.
Henry Applebaum, a discharg-
ed war veteran, now a Yeshivah
student, reported on conditions
of European Jews and urged that
American Jews make it their re-
sponsibility to preserve tradition-
al Judaism.
Max Kaplan reported on prog-
ress being made in remodeling
the - Yeshivah building on Lin-
wood and Elmhurst.
Yeshivath Chachmey Lublin is
accepting new registrants for the
new term to begin Jan. 28.
Lunches are provided and there
are gymnasium classes for pupils
beginning with the seventh
grade, twice a week, at the Jew-
ish Center.
Registrations are being accept-
ed in the Parochial School where
competent English teachers have
been secured.

Graduation exercises will be
held at the Parochial • School at
1:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27. Philip

To Occupy Pulpit
At NW Hebrew Cong,
Rabbi Edward M. Tenenbaum
will occupy the pulpit of the
Northwest Hebrew Congregation
and Center at the Bagley School
this Friday evening at 8:15 and
Sabbath morning at 9.
The congregation will hold a
general meeting of the member,
ship on Monday, at 8 p. m., at
the Bagley school. Reports will
be made by synagogue commit-
tees on the progress of the ad-
ministration, under the leader-
ship of Ira G. Kaufman, presi-
dent.
At a meeting of the coordinat-
ing council committee of the
synagogue, attended by heads of
component groups affiliated with
the congregation, it was decided
to appoint an editorial staff to
issue a monthly journal.
Temple Israel Cub Scouts
Meet Jan. 28 at Hampton
The first meeting of the entire
pack of Cub Scouts sponsored by
Temple Israel Men's Club will
be held at Hampton School, Mon-
day, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p. m.

DR. JOSEPH H. HERTZ
the United States at an early age,
was educated in the College of
the City of New York and was
ordained Rabbi by the Jewish
Theological Seminary. He was
elected Chief Rabbi of Britain
in 1913.
He was the author of "The
Book of Jewish Thoughts," a re-
print of excerpts from which wa:s
distributed in hundreds of thous-
ands of copies among servicemen;
the five-volume commentary
"The Pentateuch and Haftorahs"
and other works.
An ardent Zionist, he fought
valiantly against British restric-
tions imposed upon Jewish efforts
in Palestine.
New Congregation
Breaks Ground for
Building March 17
Ground - breaking ceremonies
for the new Congregation Ahvath
Achim Bnai Abraham, known for
many years as the Delmar Con-
gregation, are planned for the
afternoon of Sunday, March 17,
on the site of the new building,
Dexter and Tyler.
Many prominent persons in the
city will attend. In the evening
there will be a Purim dinner and
dance in Bnai David hall, 14th
and Elmhurst.
The committee in charge in-
cludes Charles Freedman, Harry
Eskin, Max Bachman, Lew Tess-
ler, Max Kaner, Abe Cherrin, C.
Cottler, Peter Chodoroff, Meyer
Lebowitz and Albert Burke.
Orthodox Rabbis
Support Campaign
For Beth Yehudah
Detroit Council of Orthodox
Rabbis has announced that it will
sponsor a city-wide, inter-syna-
gogue, Saturday evening confer-
ence, Feb. 2, as a formal opening
of the 30-day intensive campaign
for Yeshivath Beth Yehudah. The
drive will end with the annual
patrons' dinner March 3.
Directors of all local congrega-
tions and representatives of other
communal groups will be invit-
ed to the Melave Malko. On that
Sabbath morning, Rosh Chodesh
Adar I, talks in all synagogues
will stress the need for Yeshivah
education, and a plea will be
made for enrollment in all
Yeshivah departments — kinder-
garten, day school (first through
sixth grades), intermediate
classes (7th to 9th grades), after-
noon Yeshivah, and Beth Jacob
School for Girls—which will
open their winter session Jan. 28.
Organized 30 Years Ago
Since the organization of the
Yeshivah 30 years ago by the
late Rabbi Yehudah Leib Levin,
all spiritual leaders of Detroit
synagogues have assisted in its
work. A tribute will be paid Feb.
2 to the memory of Rabbis E.
Aishishkin, S. M. Fein, M. Zager
and Y. R. Levin.
Among Detroit Rabbis who
have held office in Beth Yehudah
