Rabbis Issue Appeal for Tree Dr. Crane to Speak
Planting on Hamisha Asar At Jan. 18 Service

The Palestine Committee of the

Orthodox Rabbis of Detroit, has
issued a call to the Jewish corn-
. munity of Detroit to observe
Hamisha Asar b'Shevat, Jewish
Arbor Day, by planting trees in
Palestine through the Jewish Na-
tional Fund Council of Detroit.
Signed by Rabbi Moses Fischer,
Rabbi J. Eisenman and Rabbi J.
S. Sperka, the appeal points out
that the planting of trees has be-
come a tradition in Jewish life
and urges that all Jewish inter-
ests in the community be direct-
ed towards the redemption of

honor the living by planting trees
in Palestine, on Hamisha Asar,
next Thursday, •Jan. 17."

Beth Yehudall's opening of the
winter session on Jan. 28, a com-
munity-wide effort for the inter-
pretation of the role of the Yesh-
ivah in religious education of
Jewish youth was charted by the
board of directors last Thursday,
presided over by Rabbi M. J.
Wohlgelernter.
The Detroit Council of Ortho-
dox Rabbis has set the Sabbath
of Feb. 2, (Parshas Mishpotim),
the first day of Adar 1, as the
beginning of annual observance
of Torah Month—designed to ac-
quaint the community with the
importance of Yeshivah training,
and to rally support for its pro-
gram. A special committee of
Rabbis and laymen will map de-
tailed plans.

among the survivors of European
Jewry has received wide acclaim.
He was instrumental in ar-
ranging for the rehabilitation of
a large group of Jewish boys and
girls from the survivors of Buch-
enwald concentration camp into
Palestine and personally accom-
panied the transport of these
children which arrived at Haifa
