H. H. Prenzlauer,

Pioneer Jewish
Leader, Dies at 76

Veteran City, County Of-
ficial Born in State, Came
Here 60 Years Ago

Harry H. Prenzlauer's death on
Saturday, at the age of 76, served
to recall the interesting career of
the pioneer Michigan Jewish
leader.
Associated for .42 years in a
leading official capacity with the
Detroit and Wayne County social
service agencies, Mr. Prenzlauer
was secretary for 40 years of the
County Board of Superintendents
Of the Poor. For nearly as many
years he was secretary of the De-
troit Department of Public Wel-
fare.
-For many years also he was su-
perintendent of purchases for Re-
ceiving and Eloise Hospitals and
was held in high esteem for his
services throughout the state.
Several years ago he developed
a plan whereby the old Shaarey
Zedek building on Willis and
Brush would have been devel-
oped into a Jewish hospital. But
the plan was rejected because of
the changing population trends.
Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.,
Mr. Prenzlauer came to Detroit
His wife, Eva, was for years
among the most active Jewish
women social service leaders in
the city. --, -
Besides his wife he is survived
by a son, Colonel L., and two
daughters, Mrs. Harry H. Fisher
and Mrs. Max Abramsohn.
