`Attitudes of Jews to Jews'
To Be Lehrer's Topic Jan. 6

Leibush Lehrer, Jewish edu-
cator and psychologist, will fea-
ture the next program in the Yid-
dish culture series of the Joint
Yiddish Culture Committee of
the Jewish Center and Commun-
ity Council, at 9 p. m. Sunday,
Jan. 6, in the Center auditorium,
Woodward at Holbrook.
His subject will be "Attitudes
of Jews to Jews," one of the
.problems to which Mr. Lehrer
has devoted considerable research
and thought, and on which he
has written extensively in many
English and Yiddish periodicals.
In U. S. Since 1909
Mr. Lehrer, a native of Poland,
has lived in the U. S. since 1909,
and holds the Bachelor's ,and
Master's degrees in psychology
and education from Clark Uni-
versity. He has been active in
the field of Jewish education
since 1918, is one of the founders
of the Sholem Aleichem Folk In-
stitute in New York City, and is
associated with it now as prin-
cipal of the Institute High School,

and as director of its Camp Boi-
berik.
Mr. Lehrer teaches courses in
child psychology and education
at the Jewish Teachers Seminary.
Since 1925, he has been associ-
ated also with the Yiddish Scien-
tific Institute (YIVO) and is now
chairman of its executive board
and research secretary of the
section on psychology and educa-
tion.
Complete Cultural Series
The Yiddish cultural programs
are supported by a large number
of organizations affiliated with
the Community Council. The
series includes holiday festival
programs, lectures, concerts, and
programs based on cultural
movements in Jewish history,
such as Hasidism, Chalutziut and
Messianism.
Tickets at half price have been
distributed among the cooperat-
ing organizations. Additional
tickets at 60 cents will be on sale
at the Center the evening of the

Detroit Women's Division of the
American Jewish Congress will

Browarney Family
Club Elects B. Okum

Ben Okum, former marine
who served overseas for two
years, is the new president of
the Browarney Family club. He
was installed at the ninth annual
dinner, Sunday, Dec. 16, at Moss
Catering Hall.

Others installed were Allan
Smith, vice president; Dave
Berk, treasurer; Mrs. Allan
Smith, financial secretary; Mrs.
Irving Browarney, recording sec-
retary.
Harry Gross was toastmaster
for the evening. Dave Okum en-
tertained with several songs.
It was a gala night for the
club's returning servicemen.
Welcomed back were Ben Okum,
who holds the Purple Heart and
three battle stars and who saw
action on Okinawa; Nate Gilbert,
who served on Guadalcanal in
the marines for four years, and
Al Baker, who served four years
with the army.

Girl Scouts in Southwest De-
troit will hold a theater party at
a matinee this Friday afternoon,

Refugee Rabbis In Shanghai
Will Be Admitted to Canada
MONTREAL, (JTA)—Canada
will admit 51 refugee rabbis and
their families who are now re-
siding in Shanghai, it was an-
nounced by the Canadian Jewish
Congress. The refugees, totaling
67, will be allowed to enter under
a non-immigrant status for a
one-year period, as students,
after which their cases will be
reviewed.
