NCJW Holds Affair
At Center Monday;
Mrs. Engel to Talk

Council of Jewish Women, will
honor paid-up and new membefs
at a luncheon and fashion show
at 12:30 Monday, at the Jewish
Center. •:"
Members are being asked to
bring a bundle of china, crystal
or bricabrac, which will be sold
at Council's Resale Shop, Cass
at Peterboro. During luncheon
models will parade beautiful
clothes.
Mrs. Irving M. Engel of New
York, chairman of the national
committee on service to foreign
born of the NCJW, will be the
principal speaker.
The Council, with headquar-
ters at 1819 Broadway, New
York, is a 52-year-old organiza-
tion with a membership of 65,000
throughout the country.
Mrs. Engel will discuss "The
Service to Foreign Born program
of the National Council of Jew-
ish Women."
A graduate of Smith College,
Mrs. Engel was president of her
Alumni Class for 13 years. From
1923 to 1924 she attended Oxford
University in England. Later she
worked with girls clubs and was
associated with Dr. Stephen Wise
in the Jewish Institute of Reli-
gion.

Hearts in Harmony Series
Opens at Center Dec. 5;
Dr. Tumin First Speaker
Dr. Melvin Tumin of Wayne
University sociology department
will be the first speaker of the
Hearts in Harmony Series at the
Jewish Center on Dec. 5.
Dr. Tumin's subject, "Women
Come of Age," will be with a
view toward analyzing the role
of women in the postwar world.
He will discuss social, economic
and mental hygiene aspects of
the problem.
The Hearts in Harmony Series
will be held on six Wednesday
evenings at 8:30. The program
is as follows:
Dec. 5, "Women Come of Age,"
Dr. Tumin; Dec. 12, "Love in the
Making," Mrs. Terrill; Dec. 19,
"You, Woman, You," Dr. Cur-
han; Dec. 26, "Prelude to a Life
Partnership," Dr. Curhan; Jan.

Dr. Grossman; Jan. 9, "H e r e

The charge to Center Mem-
bers is $1 for the series, for non-
members $2 and a special rate of
$1 to non-members who attend-
ed the Hearts In Harmony Se-
ries last spring.

Prof. Lindeman to Address
Sisterhood at Beth El
Prof. Eduard C. Lindeman of
the N. Y. School of Social Work
of Columbia University will ad-
dress the Sisterhood of Temple
Beth El on MondaY,. Dec. 10, at
2 p.m., in the Brown Memorial
Chapel.
His subject will be "American
Responsibilities in World Af-
fairs."
Prof. Lindeman recently re-
turned from Europe. The meet-
ing is open to the public.

rent campaign for minyanim.
Mrs. Henry Wineman, who for
the past 10 years has headed Ha-
dassah's Youth Aliyah Commit-
tee, will preside at this affair and
will introduce the guest speaker,
Mrs. Waitstill Hastings Sharp,
who has rendered distinguished
service to refugees in European
countries throughout the war and
has been decorated by Czechoslo-
vakia and Portugal.
Mrs. Harry L. Jones, chapter
vice president in charge of the
program, announces that a choral
reading, commemorating Henri-
etta Szold's birthday, will be ren-
dered by Mrs. Milford Pregerson,
accompanied on the piano by Mrs.
Royal Maas.
Tea Concludes Meeting
The meeting will be concluded
with a tea arranged by Mrs. Ir-
ving Wartell, chairman, and Mrs.
Ellis Fishman, co-chairman. Hos-
tesses will include Youth Aliyah
and minyan chairmen.
Hadassah will join in the trib-
ute to Mrs. Anna Werbe's 25
years of service to the community
in the field of art. Mrs. Werbe has
been a loyal member of Hadassah.

$8,490,336 quota. War• Chest
books will remainopen for addi-
tional contributions for the next
several months.
Although there has been a drop
in War Chest income, some teams
have done remarkably well.
John Isaacs, who headed the
team that solicited the linen,
overall and diaper suppliers, has
reported raising $17,000—an in-
'crease of $3,500 over last year.
