The principal speaker was Rabbi Eliezer Levi, associate Rabbi of Bnai Moshe. Among those present were Harry Cohen and Harry Shul- man, president and vice-presi- dent of Shaarey Zedek, David Cohen, president of Bnai David, and Isidore Soskin, • prominent in communal activities. The president of the congrega- tion, Ira G. Kaufman, after a talk on the need of a Conserva- tive synagogue, introduced Alice Goldsmith, president of the Ladies' Auxiliary, Edith Oper- man. president of the Young Ladies' Society, and Manny Lax. president of the Men's Club of the congregation, who spoke briefly: Rev. David Katzman led in the singing of the national an- thems. David M. LeVine was honored to be the first man to break ground. He was followed by members of the congregation whose length of service and de- votion to the synagogue deserved the honors. Temple Israel Friday night, Dec. 7, at 8:30, in the Lecture Hall of the Detroit Institute of Arts. He will preach on the subject, "What America Means to- Me" and will describe his experiences in Nazi Germany and his escape to America. Rabbi Leon Fram, together with officers and members of Temple Israel, will be in Cin- cinnati that Friday night to at- tend the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Hebrew Union College. Other members of the delegation are Jacob A. Citrin, Sol R. Colton, Charles L. Gold- stein, Arthur J. Hass and Nathan Kolb. At the close of the services the Sisterhood of Temple Israel will hold a reception in honor of Rabbi Schoenberger. - The Play Club of Temple Israel's Reliigous School is pre- senting several performances of the Hanukah play, "The End of the Story," by Fannie B. Linsky, before various departments of the school. The play is directed by Miss Bette Weinberg.
