Given Air Medal;
Due Home Shortly

A gala reunion is being planned
for Flight Officer Sam Feinstein,
recent recipient of the Air Medal
in the Pacific area, when he re-
turns home around Thanksgiving.

recently receiv-

husband was decorated with the
Air Medal for meritorious action
while participating in fights in
the Pacific area from June 22 to
July 6 of this year. The letter
-was signed by Gen. George Ken-
ney, commander of U. S. Pacific
air forces.
F/O Feinstein, whose brothers
Milton and Edward are discharg-
ed servicemen, has been in ser 7
vice three years.

Sgt. Krause Discharged
From Service in Army

of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Krause

were married 17. years ago in
London, England. Their four chil-
dren are Morris, Rita, Sandra and
Diane.
Relatives and friends are in-
vited to the open house in Mr.
Richman's honor, at their Flint
home, from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sun-
day, Nov. 25.
Prior to entering active ser-
vice, Mr. Richman was in the
beauty supplies business in Flint.

Lt. Samuel Kaplan
On Terminal Leave

Lt. Samuel Kaplan, who was
overseas in the ETO 26 months,
has returned to the U. S. and
is here on terminal leave. He ex-
pects his honorable discharge on
Dec. 15.
Commissioned on the battle-
field and cited for his outstand
ing ability in supervising num-
erous engineering projects that
helped in successful landing oper-
ations on D-Day, Lt. Kaplan par-
ticipated in all major cam-
paigns in France, Belgium, Hol-
land and Germany. He was
awarded the Croix de Guerre
with Palm and was recently no-
tified that he has been awarded
the Bronze Star Medal for meri-
torious service in the crossings of
the Ruhr, Rhine and Elbe Rivers.

Sgt. Stuart Schwartz is
Discharged from Service

Sgt. Stuart Schwartz, who has
been in service three years, in-
cluding two years in the ETO,
has received his honorable dis-
charge and is at home with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Schwartz of Whitmore Road.

Hanukah Party Planned

Detroit Jewry is continuing in-
tensive participation in the over-
all USO -ervices rendered to the
Armed forces at home and
abroad. They realize that the
postwar need is still great and
even more acute in terms of
morale.
As a USO member agency the
National Jewish Welfare Board,
under the guidance of Fred M.
Butzel, Michigan state chairman,
and Samuel H. Rubiner, chair-
man of the Detroit Army and
Navy Committee, is carrying on
its many and varied activities at
an accelerated pace. These are
successfully executed by over 150
organizations who channel their
work through the Detroit Army
and Navy Committee. The or-
ganization enjoy the cooperation
of the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion.
Party at Battle Creek
The Detroit Army and Navy
Committee in cooperation with
the USO-JWB office in Battle
Creek, directed by Seymour
Nash, plans a Hanukah Party
there on Dec. 4. Julius Chajes,
composer and pianist, and Mar-
guerite Kozenn, dramatic so-
prano, will present a joint recital
for servicemen and disabled vet-
erans of Percy Jones Hospital
and at Fort Custer.
Hundreds of Hanukah gift
packages will be sent to service-
men, patients, convalescents and
personnel of Percy Jones Hospi-
tal by the following Detroit or-
ganizations: Michigan Home Pro-
tective Association, Joseph Snit-
man, president; Infants Service
Group, headed by Mrs. Maurice
Shepherd; Youth Education Lea-
gue with Mrs. Eli Gross as chair-
man; Rebecca Gratz Auxiliary, a
girls group affiliated with Bnai
Brith, chairman, Frances Gins-
berg; and the Home Relief So-
ciety, of which Mrs. Samuel Ar-
kin is chairman of USO activ-
ities, and who is also supplying
the patients with Hanukah Men-
orahs and candles.
Activities at the Center
The Jewish Center provides
lounge, kitchen, swimming pool,
gym and game room facilities to
the servicemen throughout the
week and on week-ends when
the load is especially heavy.
Every Sunday morning, brunch
is served in the USO-JWB lounge
which is sponsored by various or-
ganizations and sometimes by
groups of individuals. Charles
Grossberg assumed full respon-
sibility for - le Brunch on Nov.
4; Bani Brith Pisgah Women,
with Mrs. Julius Meskin as chair-
man, served on Nov. 11, and the
Zedekah Club, whose chairman
is Mrs. Hattie Schwartz, served
on Nov. 18. The Brunches are
followed by a splash party.
A special program is provided
every Wednesday evening in the
USO-JWB Lounge for Jewish of-
ficers stationed in and around
Detroit. A discussion forum is
planned for them on Nov. 28 and
a Hanukah party for Dec. 5th.
Mrs. Lewis Daniels and Mrs.
Julian Zemon are co-chairman
of the Officers Program.
Wednesday Night at Belcrest
This month marks three years
since the Great Lakes Club has
provided rooms at the Belcrest
Hotel for USO-JWB Wednesday
night parties. Food is contribut-
ed by various Jewish groups.

JWV Ladies Auxiliaries
In Armistice Parade

The Ladies Auxiliaries of the
Jewish War Veterans of the U.
S., Department of Michigan, par-
ticipated in the Armistice Day
Parade with the posts of the de-
partment of Michigan. They were
led b y department president
Birdie Rosenberg. Color bearers
were: Department President
Rosenberg, Margaret Art, and
Lillian Fink, together with their
color guard, Hattie Cohen and
Dora Orenstein.
Members of the ladies auxil-
iary of JWV were guests of the
Eli Rosenbloom Auxiliary No. 231
of Flint, at their installation ban-
quet and military ball. This aus-
pices event was held at Durant
Hotel„ Nov. 11. Birdie Rosen-
berg and Lillian Fink officiated
at the installation.

Mrs. A. Horowitz, was host on
Nov. 7, Zedekah Club, with Mrs.
Hattie Schwartz, took over on
Nov. 14, and Youth Education
League, with Mrs. Eli Gross, as-
sumed charge on Nov. 21.
Great Lakes Club's representa-
tive at all Belcrest parties is Dr.
B. Welling.
Downtown Metropolitan USO
The Army and Navy Commit-
tee is an affiliate of the Metro-
politan USO, of which Henry
Meyers is president, and whose
executive committee includes
Mrs. Henry Wineman, Fred M.
Butzel and Isidore Sobeloff.
There every Monday is JWB day,
when Jewish organizations volun-
teer food and services in shifts at
the Canteen from noon to near
midnight.
On Nov. 5, Detroit Lodge Bnai
Brith Auxiliary, whose chairman
is Mrs. Israel Haimowitz, took
over; Nov. 12, the Detroit Chap-
ter of Hadassah, shepherded by
Mrs. AI Weisman, and the Home
Relief, headed by Mrs. Maxwell
Emmer, booked Nov. 19.
Responsibility for organization
bookings for all USO-JWB activ-
ities and for the food and re-
freshment program, is in the
hands of Mrs. Joseph Falk and
Mrs. Dan Krouse.
Mrs. Julian Krolik and Mrs.
Maurice Landau supervise the
vast organization of junior and
senior hostesses.

orably discharged from active
naval service at the Great Lakes,
Illinois, Naval Base., last week,

Mansfield '5 Meets
Whiz Kids on Sunday

Sgt. Leonard W. Moss, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Moss of
3260 Fullerton, has received his
honorable discharge from t h e
army.
In service three years, he serv-
ed in Italy for 19 months.
His marriage to Beebe Gottes-
man, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
William Gottesman of 2690 Oak-
man, will take place Dec. 2 at
the Book Cadillac Hotel.

Coach Cincy Sachs' Mansfield
basketball team, winner of the
Cleveland Pro Invitational Tour-
nament last year, officially opens
the season here on Sunday, Dec.
2, 8:30 p. m. when they take on
the All-American Whiz Kids, who
are made up of some of the lead-
ing Negro collegians in the coun-
try. The game will be played at
the Hacket Field House, Pitkin
and Third, Highland Park.

Detroiters Discharged
From Service in Navy

Lt. Albert Apple
Killed in Germany

Lt. Albert B. Apple, 22, pilot
in the AAF Transport Command,
was killed on Nov. 4 in a crash
over Stuttgart, Germany. He is
survived by his parents, Harry
and Pauline Apple, and a sister,
Mrs. Marion Apple Krone.
Lt. Albert enlisted early in
1942, qualified as a transport and
glider towing pilot and was sent
overseas in December 1943. He
participated in two airborne in-
vasions over the Rhine, and later
was detailed to carry wounded
men and supplies from the con-
tinent to bases in England.
At the time of the crash he
was flying 12 to 14 hours daily,
carrying p arts of American
planes and equipment out of
Switzerland into occupied Ger-
many.
He held two battle stars and
the Air Medal.

John Hopkins Professor
En Route to Palestine
NEW YORK.—To settle details
of organizations for the proposed
medical school in Palestine, Prof,
Jonah S. Friedenwald of Johns
Hopkins University, left Nov. 15
for London. After a week or two
in the British capital he will go
to Jerusalem.
