Thousands of Letters and Wires Reach British Prime Minister
In Washington Calling on Him to Adhere to
Labor Party's Pledges to Jews
The battle to secure justice for the Jewish position in
Palestine was given new impetus this week when thousands
of letters and telegrams reached Prime Minister Attlee in
Washington calling upon him to adhere to the pledges made
by Great Britain and the assurance of the Labor Party that
they would adhere to these pledges.
Presidency
Dr. Abba Hale]. Silver defi-
nitely has decided to accept the
presidency of the Zionist Or-
tn ganization of America.
In a letter to Dr. Emanuel
Neumann, who urged him, as
"the unanimous choice of the
Zionists of America," to accept
the post, Dr. Silver wrote:
"I have come to the decision
that I should not disregard the
demand of my fellow Zionists
so earnestly and repeatedly ex-
pressed. At a time like this,
fraught with such fateful conse-
quences to our people, none of us
has the right to withhold aught
that he possesses. If the repre-
sentatives of the movement in
convention assembled call upon
me to serve I shall have no
choice but to assent."
