Architect's Plans for New Synagogue

Sermon in Honor of

A photograph of the late Louis
Dann, pioneer worker for educa-
tion and other Jewish causes here,
will be placed in Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah next Tuesday in tribute
to his devotion to the Jewish com-
munity, and in patricular to the
Yeshivah.
A veteran Mizrachi, he was the
first treasurer of Keren Hayesod
here, an active leader in Home
for the Aged, House of Shelter
and the United Hebrew Schools.

who attended the daily Talmud
Shiur in Congregation Mogen
Abraham, Mr. Dann gave of his
best efforts to strengthen the
synagogue and raise its prestige.
Together with the late Rabbi
Yehudah Leib Levin he helped
establish Yeshivath Beth Yehu-
dah in the premises of the old
Farnsworth street Shut,
Instrumental in merging the
congregation with the Yeshivath
when the new building on Dexter
and Cortland_ was erected in
1940, he served for many years

on the Vaad Hachinuch of the
Yeshivah, visiting classes con-
stantly and attending directors
and educational meetings until
his last illness.
One of his grandchildren is
now a student in the primary
grades of the Beth Yehudah ,Day
school.

eulogize the late Mr. Dann,

will be unveiled at the semi an-
nual membership meeting next
Tuesday, at 8:45 p. m., in the
Yeshivah.-

the Telshe Yeshivah in Cleve-
land, Detailed reports will be
presented on Yeshivah activities.

Conduct Services
On Friday, Nov. 16

The Men's Club of Temple Is-
rael wil hold its third annual
Laymen's Service at 8:30 o'clock
Friday night, Nov. 16, in the
Lecture Hall of the Detroit Insti-
tute of Arts.
Members of the Men's Club,
will read the service, preach
the sermon and serve as hosts
at the social hour.
The sermon will be delivered
by Arthur J. Hass on the sub-
ject, "Survival". The service
will be read by Morris Garvett,
Maxwell H. Emmer, Sol I. Stein
and Barney Barnett.
This Friday night, Rabbi Leon
Fram preaches on the subject,
"The Origin of Reform Judaism".

Young Israel Women's
Luncheon on Tuesday

Guests at the donor luncheon
of Women's League of Young
Israel, to be held next Tuesday
at the Shaarey Zedek social hall,
will hear plans of the organiza-
tion for its participation in the
campaign for the Young Israel
center to be erected on Dexter
near Fullerton. The Women's
league has undertaken to raise
$10,000 for the building fund.
The luncheon will begin at
12:30 p. m. Rabbi Mordecai
Cater will be the guest speak-
er. Miss Margaret Kozenn and
Julius Chajes will be heard in
musical selections.

Temple Israel to Hold
Meetings for Parents
Of Scout Candidates

At a meeting of component
groups of the Northwest Hebrew
Congregation and Center held at
the home of David J. Miller, a
congregational council .was form-
ed to synchronize activities of
various groups in the Congrega-
tion.
The groups hosts included Ira
G. Kaufman, president of the
congregation, who presided; Max
H. Goldsmith, vice president;
Mrs. Alice Goldsmith, and Mrs.
Ira Miller, president and vice-
president of the Auxiliary; Man-
nie Lax, and Samuel Bez, presi-
dent and vice-president of the
Men's Club; Edyth Operman and
Charlotte Blum, president and
Girl's
vice-president of the
Youth Group.
The monthly meeting of the
board of directors of the Con-
gregation will be held on Mon-
day to plan for the new building
of the synagogue, the introduc-
tion of late Friday evening ser-
vices, the holding of a general
meeting, planning of a budget for
the new year, to hear reports of
committees.
The congregation continues to
conduct Friday evening and Sat-
urday morning services in the
Bagley School. All are invited.

A meeting for parents of boys
interested in Cub Scout activities
has been set for Nov. 12-19-26 at
the Hampton School.

dress by Dr. Jacob Marcus of
the Hebrew Union College. Jacob

ed the group.
Plans are under way for a
Purim dinner-dance in March at
the Statler Hotel. Highlighting
the month of November will be
the Friday night services con-
ducted by members of the club.
