The majority of children res-
cued last year were survivors of
concentration camps at Bergen
Belsen, Dachau, Buchenwald and
Transdnistria. The Joint Distri-
bution Committee found tempor-
ary shelter for them in France
and Switzerland and provided
their transportation to Palestine,
where they were taken over by
the Youth Aliyah. A large num-
ber also came from Romania,
Bulgaria, - Greece- and Turkey.

Most Are Orphans

At.present there are 6,500 chil-
dren under Youth Aliyah guard-
ianship. Most of them are or-
phans.. Youth Aliyah strives to
give at least to this remnant of
Jewish youth the chance kir re=
birth in Palestine.
A phase. of Hadassah's Youth
Aliyah work has been the crea-
tion of thousands of Minyan
groups throughout the country—
a Minyan being composed of 10
women who pledge themselves to
give $240 yearly towards the sup-
port of a child. This means $24
yearly from each Minyan mem-
ber. It may be paid in its en-
tirety or in convenient amounts.
Detroit Hadassah is dedicating
the month of Noveinl*r to the
expansion- of its minyan work.
