TEE FIGHTS
RACE HATRED

N

When the mayoralty campaign began, we intend-

ed observing a "hands-off" policy with the atti-

tude, "may the best man win." But that was before

Mr. Jeffries' cohorts saw fit to distribute a scurril-

ous kind of propaganda andliterature
aimed at
_ .
inciting racial hatred in neighborhoods where they

evidently thought such tactics could get him more

votes.

Once again they have seen fit to create an issue

of the racial problem ... inciting race hatred

intolerence and mean prejudice in Jeffries' cam-

paign for mayor.

We can no longer sit back-and watch this pattern

of oppression and persecution in our city. In the

last 6 years (during the present administration)

Detroit has become known throughout the nation

as a city of hate, strife and prejudice. We deem it

time we stepped in . . . urging our people t o take an active interest in the election of Richard T. Frank-

ensteen as mayor of Detroit.

Frankensteen, by his every word and deed, has proved beyond doubt that one thing he cannot and

wifl not tolerate is intolerance of any group . . . whether it be Negro, Jew or any other minority.

Let if be known that the record plainly shows that Jeffries has time and again attacked the policies of

the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt, beginning with his speech for Dewey. in Chicago during the

presidential campaign.

Gerald L. K. Smith, the notorious rabble-rouser, hate monger and Jew baiter has publicly
endorsed Mayor Jeffries many weeks ago . . Mr,. Frankensteen accused the Mayor of this
endorsement time and again, but the Mayor has never seen fit to deny or repu-
diate it. Therefore we have a right to assume that he accepts it . and welcomes it!

With these facts. now. in-othe:.open, let us then do our utmost to elect a man to the office of mayor,

who is devoted heart:A . nji .l ioul to the stamping out of racial hatred, oppression and bigotry.
