Famous Declaration

Harry Cohen, chairman of the
Balfour Ball arrangements com-
mittee, announces that one of
the features of . the Balfour Ball,
at the Statler Hotel, Sunday
night, Nov. 10, will be an exhibi-
tion dance of the Palestinian
Hora, by the Zionist Youth of
Detroit.
The Zionist youth clubs are di-
rected by Mrs. Sidney K. Moss-
man and are sponsored by the
Zionist Youth Commission.
The ball will celebrate the 28th
anniversary of the Balfour Dec-
laration, issued on Nov. 2, 1917,
by the British government, after
it had received the concurrence
of the American government, and
it opened Palestine to coloniza-
tion by the Jewish people and
to the establishment of a Jewish
homeland.
. Detroit has been' celebrating
the Balfour Declaration anniver-
sary by a ball for the past 13
years.
At a recent meeting of the
Balfour Ball committee, Rabbi
Leon Fram, president of the
Zionist Organization of Detroit,
cited Abraham Borman as
worthy of honor both for his
activity in enrolling hundreds of
members for the Zionist Organ-
ization as well as for his ener-
getic work in selling hundreds
of tickets for the Balfour Ball.

"What We Want"

By SARAH PHILKA
Give us the home we so urgently
seek,
Our spirits are numb and our
bodies grow weak.
We are weary and cold from the
gnawing inside,
And our hearts filled with long- •
ing for those who have died.
We are wandering Jews who
silently pray.
We beseech thee oh Lord, give us
strength on this day.
Give us courage—the courage we
so desperately need. •
We are scattered and growing
.
like wild faring weed.
We want 'somewhere. to rest and
absorb what we've lost,
From our books and the Torah—
despite any cost.
GIVE US THIS CHANCE TO
LIVE AS WE CHOOSE,
AND SAY TO THE WORLD WE
ARE PROUD THAT WE'RE
JEWS.
