At the Jewish Welfare Feder-
ation at '51 W. 'Warren, last week,
a committee, headed by Meyer
Taylor of 7437 W. War r e n,
brought a gift of $3,000 for the
Joint . Distribution Committee,
and three Sifre Torah.
Mr. Taylor, president of the
West Warren- Hebrew Congrega-
tion, explained that as a : result
of the shrinking of the Jewish
population in that a r ea it
had become impossible to secure
a Minyan - for .'services; and the
congregation was compelled to
liquidate.
A
_s a result, the remaining fund
of $3,000 was turned over by
the members to' the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee, for relief
and rescue work in Europe. The
Sifre Torah will be sent to Euro-
pean Jewish comin,unities.
Included in the committee
.which acted with Mr. Taylor in
making this splendid gift were
Chaim Adler, treasurer of the
congregation; Aaron Yainpolsky,
vice-president, •I. Friedman and
A. Markman. '
Mr. Taylor.states that the re-
maining Gemorrahs, prayer books
and other volumes were turned
•over to local rabbis fore use for
whatever purpose they decide.
From New -York, officers 'of the

Joint Distribution Committee, ex-
pressing thanks to -the Detroiters
for their gifts, stated that the
fund will go for the important
purpose of aiding the surviving
Jews, and that the Sifre Torah
will be used to replenish syna-
gogues in Europe which have
been left, as a result of Nazi
vandalism, without religious ob-
jects, books or Sifre Torah.'
