Jewish Congress Presents $20,000

a gift of 2,000,000 lira, the equiva-
lent of $20,000, to Vatican chari-
ties, it was disclosed this week

Lecture' Hall of the Detroit In-
stitut'e of Arts, Friday, Oct. 26,
at 8:30 p.m.
Rabbi Fram will review the
history of treaty relationships
between the U. S. government
and Palestine, as well as Ameri-
can economic, sentimental and
humanitarian interests in Pales-
tine.
This Friday night, Rabbi Fram
lectures on "The Arab Prob-
lem".
The subject of the final lec-
ture, Nov. 2, will be "The Case
For A Jewish Commonwealth in
Palestine".

Observes Book Month
With Special Exhibits
The Jewish Book Council of
America has proclaimed the
month of November . as "Jewish
Book Month" and the Library
of Temple Beth El will obserye
this event with .special:exhibits.
The Temple Library receives
every book of Jewish interest
as soon as it is off the press, and
all .the leading periodicals and
magaZines. The Library is open_
to all and books may be drawn,
on Saturday and Sunday morn=
ings, 9:30 to 12:30, and Monday
and Wednesday evenings, 7:30
to 9:30. Mrs. • Arthur L. Goulson
is in charge of the Library.
The community is invited to
visit the Library, especially dur-
ing •Jewish Book Month.

and Nazi persecution, which en-
tailed considerable expenditures.
The gift was made at the request
of the -Union of Italian Jewish
Communities.

A contribution of a similar sum
had been made by • the World
Jewish Congress prior to the lib-
eration of Italy to the Italian
Res.'grtance Movement which was
instrumental in saving many Jew-
ish lives.

decline in the liberated countries
of Western Europe, and the non-
Jewish population there is dis-
playing more sympathy for the
Jews than in the early months of
liberation, Dr. Kubowitzky told
a press conference here.
Economic Position
They emphasized that the eco-
nomic position of many Jews in
France, Belgium and Italy is grad-
ually improving, they find it dif-
ficult to adjust themselves to life
in an atmosphere where they lost

vealed that there are, at present,
15,000 new Jewish refugees in
Italy, who entered the country
during the last six months. They
are being well treated by the
Italian authorities, he said.

Junior Congregation Sabbath

sumed in several branches of the
United Hebrew Schools. TheSe
services are conducted by the
children under the supervision
of the faculty. One of the boys
acts as a Chazon, others take the
parts of Gabai and Shamash, and
the boys perform all functions
of trustees of the synagogue.
The UHS branch at Central
High will meet for services in
the vestry rooms of Bnai David
Synagogue, 14th and Elmhurst.
At the last meeting they. elected

UHS Education Month
'Radio Series Concluded
The radio program of the 19th
annual Education Month of the
United Hebrew Schools was ter-
minated -. last Sunday morning
with • an address by Charles Ru-
biner radio program chairman.
Saturday • evening, Michael
Michlin and Norman Ruttenberg
presented a skit.
The management of the UHS is
grateful to Mrs. Hyman Altman,
sponsor of the Jewish Hour over
Station WJLB, for her coopera-
tion.
The teachers' organization of
the UHS completed plans for the
publication of a bulletin in Yid-
dish and in English dedicated to
the Education Month observance:
